A Lewistown despatch to tbe Altouna Tri bune of July 31st, says : Some time sgo wie-ck occurred on the Virginia Midlaod railroad, a hicb runs between Wsshingtoo, V. C, aud Ljncu.iuig, a. A passenger train was runuing tloa ly over a weak trestle, when it went through, completely wrecking it, killing a number of passengers, and in- j urn g everybody on the train. One ot tbe pssseugera was Miss E. K. Alexander, a uiece ot Mr. James II. Maun, an extensive ax manufacturer in this vicinity. She, after a bard struggle, finally succeeded in getting out of a car window. As soon aa abe was out abc turned her at tention to rescuing olber injured passengers. Her actions were highly appreciated by tbe passengers, wbo, to show their gratitude, preaeuted her with a gold watch and chain. The company alao remembered her bravery by sending her a check for $250 and a per petual pasa on that road. Miaa Alexander ia a resident of this county. The v eterans' Re-unleo. The executive Committee of the Juniata county Veterans' Association met as per adjournment oa Saturday afternoon, July 24, 1888. Mirtlintown was selected as tbe place and Thursday, October 18, 1888, as tbe time for holding tbe reunion. The following resolution was adopted : Ittsolvtd, That tbia shall be as ibe name indicates the Veterans Association Re union, and that tbe parade shall be compos ed of veterans alone without any ouUide oigauixatious either among the veterans or the citizens, and that tbe veteran badge alone shall be worn.
