One of the simplest of barometers is a spider's web. When there is prospect of rain or wind the spid 1 r j shortens the filaments from which its web is suspended and leaves things in this state as long as the weather is variable. If the insect elongates its thread it is a -sign of fine calm weather, the duration of which may be judged of by the length to which the threads are let out. If the spider remains inactive it is a sign of fiue calm weather, but if on the contrary it keeps at work during a rain, the latter will not last long and will be followed by fine weather. Other observations have taught that the spider makes changes in the web very twenty-four hours, and that if such changes are made in the evening just before sunset the night will be clei.r und beautiful. He did not remain there lonir but soon returned to the neigh borhood of bis home, where be has been hiding ever since bis escape. Being in possession of the inform ation that McCabe bad returned to Preston township Sheriff Medland and Deputy Clark organized a possee of about hlty pictea men tnis morn inr. At precisely G o'clock they were to move upon a certain locality from three different points. The work of searching barns and dwell ings commenced at the time fixed and in a short time McCabe was discov ered by constable Martin, of Preston, in the bay loft of a barn belong ing to Martin Cluno. The officer wilted on seeing the escaped prison er, but Sheriff Clark and officer Mc Mullen ascended into the hay loft and just as McCabe was in the uct of getting up they covered bim with their revolvers and ordered bim to throw np bis hands. Don't shoot ! "1 will," be answered. He was at once hand-cuffed and brought to the county jail, where he is again under the guard of two watchman. A five shooter was found in his coat pocket. When asked why ho did not attempt to use it, be said that the officers surprised him. He beard the noise tiny made in the barn, but thought it was caused by the old farmer, who bad come out to do bis morning chores. The day fixed for his execution is October ti. The Sheriff allows no one to see him. He is very quiet and has nothing to say to anyone. He will not disclose his whereabouts pr.-vious to hia capture.
