This is not the only Circleville within the limits of the Republic, but there Is no other Circleville like this. It is situated on tbe banks of the Sciota river, on a ten mil square, plain piece of land that baa no hills, excepting a mound, here aud there. that exist, aa it were," as so many mono menta to a prehistoric race. Tbe fertile lands ol tbe plain caes the county ti rank among tbe richest in the Buckeye State. Every pound of the land la a depos it of sandy, pebbly, loamy aoil through which tbe rain water readily finis its way but leaves a sufficient amount of moisture to produce first rate crops. The wheat this season was s- poor that in the spring time many of the wheat fields were re-plowed and planted to corn. It it not necessary to cut down tbe stalks of corn with an axe to get tbe ears but the crop ia estimated at five million bushels. It it a lection of this vast country that lies so fr south ot the Juniata Valley that tbe preparation for wheat tewing had scarcely been commenced. TBS Town is named from a vast pre-historic circular fortification that the Indians had such a tra ditional dread of, that they never entered tbe large enclosure that was a half mile round. Tbe circle was a double one, twen ty feet high, measuring from the b tttom o f the ditch outside of tbe outer circle. Gate wajs or cuts opened through tbe hank of the circle aud betore each gate was a mound, where a guard, in all probability was mounted. A mound seventy feet high overlooked the great circle. The men of a generation ago, dug the circle into the ditch, cut streets through the great mound and af terwards carted it all sway and erec ted the court house and several fine church es withiu what was the limits of the base of tbe mound, but now, the present gener ation deplore Jibe destroying hand of the fathers, and declare that if they had suth cieut foresight, they would have preserved tbe mound as a place on which to erect a reservoir lor water for the present hand some little city of seven thousand people. There is wealth enough there to permit of tbe erection of water works if tbey bad a place tor a reservoir. Tbey indu'ge in both gas, aud electric light. It is a beautiful place as used to be said of Wishing tou, D. C, "of magnificent distance." Tbe streets cross eaiii otber at rijht angles, aud are twice as wide as tbe streets of Mitltin- town, and mot of them as level as a floor. It is the best paved town we b ive eve been in excepting thia little mouulaiu place iu the valley of the Juniata. Shade trees abound. There are uiauy atately houses, but it is above all places, a place ol Cozy cottages.
