Seen wa the state of leeliug on Sabbath t. i.il. r 7. 18Si. when th p. , i shocking report wa burled through our quiet neighborhood that Mis Ida J. Mc Ueen, had died a few minutes past 10, on Saturday evening This report no one could couceive of its being true, for every body knew her to be in good health us ually : but it proved to be true that she is dead. Poor Ida is dead! Ida was born in Van Wert, Juniata county, Pa., ic Juue lts7, being the third daughter or Samuel and Mary J. McMeem. As Van Wert, has been always her home, he attended our school and beine studious, kind and lively at play she won the love aud repect of teacher and pupils. , After completing the common school branches she attended ether schools for the pnrpose of preparing to teach, which she did a few term very uccejful ly, when he turned ber attention to uinsic and attended the Musical College at Tree burg. During the summer of 18S2,he took , a trip through some of the Wetern tate visiting relations and friend. Upon re turning home in Ftfbrury of 1893, her mother took sick aud died in a few days. Now the homo was completely changed as alt homes are where the morther has been removed by death. Ma was- now left to con trive the alfaiis ol the house, with her fa ther aud brother, and they made the home pleasant to themselves and visitor until she died. Oil, how sad to thiuk of the boreav ment. During the day she was well and feeling as cheerful a any one could be ; in the evening alio was engaged in conversa tion with some of her frieuds until about 10 P. M., then after goiug to the pump for a drink she retired, and wheu her father re tired only a lew minutes after, she called him to ber room aud aaid she was suffering great pains and told him to call some of the neighbors, he ran to the window aud called Mrs. Sellers, as she had not retired yet ; and the came to Ma immediately aud found her almost unconscious. Nothing could be doue to relieve ber and grasping the hands cf Mrs. Sellers tinnly in hers she turned on her side aud exp-ired. The death warrant came and took from us on ol Van Wert's lair daughters, whoso loss we deep ly leel. Can we ever lorgot the scene No, never. We can punt the picture in our im agination fur yea is to come, ol health and vigor in their gayest forms, in tho parlor presiding at the organ, cutertaining Iricnds aud then in filteon minutes later tho same body lay luMion'es in an upper room with the grave notes on her face. On tho uexl day, Sunday, friends gathered from all irts of the country to hear the particulars (' her death.
