Payment on the certificate of de posit and the notes has been stopped, and it is likely that the thieves, will re alize little from their plunder." A packago of burnt money represent iug $2, GOO was received at the Trias ury in Washington recently for redemp tion. It was the property of Thomas Dowling, a quarryman living near Men asba, Wisoonsin, and represented the avi"gs of twenty three years of bard work. His cabin was destroyed by fire on March 6, and with all his money, which was in the form of greenback and national bank notes. The charred remnants of the money were submitted to the examination of a committee of the Treasury experts, and all the legal tender notes to the amount of $1,950, were identified. They were redeemed at once. The remainder will be trans mitted to the banks of issue for their action, and the result will be that the entire amount of the burnt money will be restored to its owner. The Lewistown Gazette, in speaking of events at Milroy, says : 1'he mot mg of movings was that of Rev. J. VY. White, which took place a couple weeks ago. The men of Mr. White's congre gation came flocking towards bis houso on the niortrlng of the moving day with their wagons, as did likewise the wom en folks of the village and hereabouts, all willing asd ready for the tearing up business. One by one each wagon was loaded and driven to Mr. White's new abode, a beautiful bouss situated a little north of the school bouse, where everything was landed safely. Accord mg to an eye-witness one hundred aud fifty persons partook of dinner. To wards evening of the same day the peo ple were astonished to see comiug through the street a large house drawn by six horses, which proved to be Mr. White's ice house. Everything was fioally fixed up and the weary men, women, boys and girls took their leave for home. "Where I Love, I Love Forever." She was a uiithrsome maid who sang. Close by the cottsge window sitting; Snvf t and clear were the notes that rng Out on the air where the birds are Hitting; Merrily, merrily sang the birds. Bui none could exactly guess their words, While the maid so clever, And biuthing never. Sang, "Where I love, I love forever I" He was a youth just pissing by While the maid was singing.ob.sn sweetly! Who to the garden gate drew u:gh And listened there.entranced complutely; For the sound of a voice so sweet and clear Was rapturous music to his ear, And he said, "Ah ! never Would I wish to sever From ono who lores, and loves forever !" The maiden smiled on her lover's suit, When at her feet he made confession ; Her eyes were bright, but her voice was mute When she gave her heart into his posses sion. But now togethrr their lives are set, The sing in unison this duet : "We'll dissever K ever never ! For when we love, we love forever!" - The Harry Sisters. The citizens of Mifflintown aud vicin ity are promised a rare literary and vo cal aud instrumental treat in the near future by Prof. Harry s three daughters aged six, eight and twelve years. Ar rangements are now bsing made to that end.. We clip the following notice of one of their entertainments from the Carlisle "Sentinel": Prof. Harry's children gave one of their wonderful exhibitions in the opera house last ev ening to an audience which was capti vated from the start with the proficien cy of the children. Their musical skill, considering their age, issooietbiDg won derful, and hows not only patient la bor, but catural aptituda. Their reci tations in Spanish and German were re ally surprising. Just imagine a six year old girl reading off these languages as easily si t sixteen year old Ameri can school girl would read ber native tongue, and one has an idea of their proficiency. The entire exhibition was a charming ooe, and we heartily com mend them as wonderi, and advise ev ery one who has tbo ehanoe to gi and hear them. Another Swindle. Despite the warnings the newspapers have given, it would seem that roving sharpers will ever find victims in this glorious climate of ours. I be Waynes boro (Frauklin Jo.,) : Kecord - tells follows "how Mr. John Kriner, of near Leitersburg, was victimized, a couple of weeks ago: : "A couple of men call ed at bis house with a quanity of goods, patterns for garments gunerally, which they insisted on selling him. lie bad no use for the goods and of course re fused to buy. They fioally asked per mission to leave the goods in eare of Mrs. Kriner. She consented to take charge of them until called for. Before leaving they said they would take a few lines in writing stating the tact tbat the goods bid been left in the family's oare, whioh Mr Kriner signed. It since turned out tbat be signed a note for $100, which the villains sold to a Ha gerstown broker. Mr. Kriner has tak en np the bogus note, and now wants a purchaser for the goods at, we presume, most any price. John Coyle, Jr., was hung at Get- tysburg on the 22nd day of April, for the murder of Emily Myers, who be killed on the 30th of May, 1881. Tb wretch elaimed to have fouud peaoe in believing in Christ. How a jrood for- nothing man, who can deliberately kill a fellow human being, can honestly be lieve in anything outside of a gratihoa tion of his depraved desires, is not uu derstood by honest people. Lp to the moment of the execution he believed that be would not be bung, which belief was not well founded as was proven by the hanging If his belief in a future peace is not better founded than the belief tbat be would not be bung, be is not now in Paradise. ''John Coyle, Jr., lived with bis parents in Hellam town ship, York eounty, on the banks of the Susquehanna river. ltb them, em ployed as a maid, lived boiily Myers. Oo the morning of 3Uth of May, 1881, she went to the stable to milk the cows. This was about five o'clock. Whilst there Coyl came io and wanted ber to promise to marry him. She refused. He drew a pistol and shot ber dead. Coyle was arrested and placed in the Couoty Jail at York June 10, 1881. After two trials, one at York and one iu Adams county and his ease being taken to the supreme Court twice, the Governor's death-warreut was issued and read to the prisoner February 26, 1884. Since his conviction -Coyle has persistently clung to the hope of com mutation of sentence, expressing the belief on on all occasions tbst be would never be hung." Officer Rollmin met with a stunning surprise last Saturday, A v.arrsnt had been gotten out before Justice Beidler, on the information of Mrs. S. L. Steak, for the arrest of Isaao Sterk, on the charge of desertion, and placed in the bands of Rollman, with the in struction to bring the said Isaac Steck before the justioe to answer. Iheom cer was inlormed that the object of bis search might be found in lawyer stone s olhce, and thither be went, fitoce was not in, be had gone with constable Funk, of Port Royal, on a mission lor Steck, over to Wilson Robison's place, in Milford towosiiip, where Mrs Meek and a uiid naaied Rtchason bad rented a bouse from Robison, and bad started housekeeping. Steck said tbat he had married his wite a .Mrs. itiitcbeii, a Lynchburg, Ya , woman about one year ago and that tb and Ricbason bad made things nncomfortablo for him at home, and that' he Lad taken his horse and buggy and gone to Mr. Sil verthorn's place, that tbey followed him there, took the horse and buggy, and a wagon load of household goods from Steck's bou?e, and a lot of chick ens, 28 of which were sold to landlord Loudon in this town, whan the parties appeared in this place. Well, Stone and Funk' were over to Robison's to secure Steck's property, when officer Rollman appeared in the lawyer's of fice to serve the warrant. He spoke to Steck, and he acknowledged himself to be the mar.. The warrant was serv ed, and the prisoner was ordered to gi with the officer. No ! said the defend ant, you will have to take me. Roll man looked at him and then shrank a. way, frightened, for the prisoner had neither armB or legs. The officer left in a hurry, be knew the defendant could not run away, and baok to Beidler's office be went, and in a style sufficient ly dramatic, be stated the helpless, phys ical condition of the prisoner. The Justice, white with rxciteaiont, stuzil his hat, and legal forms, hastened with the constable to the lawyer's offi-e and there, after the excitemeut was abated. proceeded to perform the mandates of the law. 1 here was no help for Meet, his lawyer was away on a mission for him, and no one knew him sufficiently ell to co his bail, when that was made clear to all rarties Rollman took the prisoner in bis arms and carried bim to jail and lodged him in Sheriff Shivery 's care. Meanwhile lawyer "iu-ne not ev en suspecting such an event to over take bis clieut was busy in the interest of Steck, at Robison s, to 6eoure bis client's property. Officer I unk had a warrant which bad been gotten out by Steck, himself, at Port Royal, charging Mrs. Steck with having unlawfully tak en his property, and Mr Stone accom panied the officer to Robison's to see that the execution was properly maae. When Richasnn saw tho officer and law yer coming he gave leg bail, and ran away as fast as be could across the fields and in that way got himself out of the case. Stone paid the $7.00 house rent aud horse feed bill that Mrs. Steck and Ricbason bad incurred at Robison's and then he and Funk brought the horsa and buggy to town. If offioer Rollman and justice Beidler were shocked when tbey learned that Steck bad neither legs or arms. Stone, upon returning to his orace was aston ished upon the information that his cli ent had been put in j iil. He visited his client and in a truly philosophical way quieted tbo excitement of his cli ent, and satisfied him that the cbeape and least exciting way was for him to remain in jail till properly released by the law which ccnld at most be, after the lapse of a few days, and at the same time he received an order from Steck to sell the horse and bvenj, which he did, Sheriff Shivery becoming the pur chaser. He was also authorized by Stsck to sell the household effects that Mrs. Steck and Richascn brought with them. Steck was born iu Huntingdon eounty about 40 years ago and lived on a property that he bought wi'h money ob tained by pedd'ing lead pencils, pocket knives and si fourth. Mrs. Steck em ployed a couple of lawyers, Patterson and Jacobs, to look up the property interest that she. acquired when she uisrried Steck.
