another illustration in the following piece of
intelligence from Adamsburg; Snyder coun
ty, nnder date of December 1st, as follows :
Detective Lyon and Officer Smith arrest
ed Joseph Moyer last evening at Middle
bury, charged with surety of tbe peace, and
alga on a charge of being implicated in tbe
killing and robbing of a peddler about fif
teen years sgo with Uriah Moj er and other
parties not arrested yet. He was taken be
fore S. A. Wiscll, Esq., of Beavertown, who
committed ilOyer lo M'nldleburg j ail to
await his trial at the next term of court.
The arrest of Mover was made on an affi
davit in Detective Lyon's powessiun which
says that Joseph Moyer followed the detec
tive lor some time w ith a rift avowing tbat
he would aboot Lyon the first opportunity
he gut because he arretted ibe Kintzler mur
derers. The affi iavit also says that fifteen
years ago two peudlera mysteriously duap
pea ed Iroin the vicinity where the Moyers,
Krbs and Bltingers lived, and that a confes
sion tnade by one ol the latter implicated
Joseph Moyer in tbe murder of one peddler
who was buried in the bed of a creek, and
alleges tbat Uriah Moyer and others killed
and robbed tbe other peddler directly after
ward ahd burled bim near Moyer's bouse.
The community it much excited over the
arrest.

Without them tbe great movements of the
oast century for the furtherance of personal,
religious and political liberty would have
traveled at a snail's pace. But this was

Robert M. Foltx, a nine-year old son of
Daniel Foltt, living in Milford township,
was accidentally pushed from the portico of
the Mnddy Run school boose one day last

Zook snd Kuruberger, the hired mm, struck

a cur, a terrier and a hound. The cur came

ear. Biuin resented the nip and with one
stroke of a front paw knked the cur about
ten feet away and entirely out of the race.

neighborhood, tbe bear re-swam the dam
and came to this fnd of the ridge not more
than a mile from town, where it was left
about noon to pursue the even tenor ot its
way. SinCe then it has been seen a number
of times on tire ridge north of town, and at
no time further from Mifiiiuton than three
milts.
Some rears ago a Dueplno county man
nsaied Bowman, while on bis way home one
night, saw a couple of neighbors named
Shoop at a pile of burning brush. The
Shoops put some kind of a body io the tire.
Bowman thought it was the body of a man,
and, without attempting to learn as to the
correctness of his conjecture, proceeded to
ciica'aie the statement that the Shoors had
burned the body of a man on a certain
night in a field. The story got no less as
it was passed around. Soon a missing man
was connected with it, snd then the Shoops
were arrested for murder. They proved
that the body that tbey burned w.u ihe body

The Shoops hare got tired of being hunted,
and they have turned on the men that hare
been suing them, and have brought .-tilt
