Death of David Beshoar, Sr. David Beshoar, Sr., of Fermanagh town ship, died way 12th, IbSO, at the home of his son, David Beshoar, Jr. He was born in the township of Fermanagh, Juniata county January 23, 1W9, and was maimed to Mary Kuble, who survives !dra, January 2-i, 1S31. He had ;ix sons t Andrew, Mi chael, David, Solomon, John aud Peter, all of whom are liviug, save Peter, who died of pneumonia in February last. He also had two daughters, one of whom was married to Amos Stoufler, and is since dead ; the other was married to Calvin Watts, of Fayette township. For a period of forty-nine years David Beshoar, Sr., and his beioved wife have lived together in peace, happiness and pros perity, such as falls to the lot of few cou ples in tins worM. His health, with the ex ception of several slight attack, had been uniformly good, nntil his last and immediate ailment. He was se.zed with disease in the tali of 179, and continued from the onset, with intervals of relief and apparent im provement, to gradually decline. Within the last week of his illness his symptoms became alarming and urgent, and on Wed nesday afternoon, May 12th, death came to his relief. Mr. Beshoar followed the occupation of a f irmer during his entire lifetime. For a number of years he lived in Centre and Mif llin counties, though the greater part o( his Ii'e was 'petit in his native township and county, on the farm on which he was born. He as a man of fine common sense, great ndutrv and frugal management. Although lie began life in moderate circumstances, by the exercise of his Stirling qualities, and with the help of his wile, sons and daugh ters, he acquire 1 large estates in Juniata comity, so that each of bis children, now living, possess valuable farms. Mr. Beshoar was hi lily respected by his fellow-citizeus as an upright, conscientious man. But to appreciate his real worth, re quired ac intimate acquaintance with him. This ws our privilege. We always found him kind, honest, lrank and benevolent. Mcntallv, be was a man of more than ordi nary iuteliigeuce and rttlection, and was especially fond of informing and improving his mind. His reading and meditation was largely in reference to the Holy Scriptures, with which he was very conversant. He had a profound reverence for, and abiding faith in the Christian religion, end was long an exemplary member of the "German Bjp tist" church. He had very clear and de cided views concerning the doctrines of re ea!ed religion, aud his Lops ot a blessed immortality were well grounded. His read leg was not confined, however, to the sa cred writings ; but he w as also a close and intelligent student of ancient and modern history. Althou'-h the greater part of his time was spent in agricultural pursuits and in the studies referred to, yet he delighted and shared in some of the manly and ex citing recreations. His favorite sports were those of bunting and fishing. He was ex ceedingly fond of the latter, and npon oc c.i.ions of that kind, his genial and manly disposition would be exhibited in a marked degree. But his lile's work is done. In the fullness of time his summons came, and he has gone 'To that beautiful land by the spoiler untrod, Unpolluted by sorrow and care ; It is lighted alone by the presence of God, Whose throne and whose temple are there. "Its crystaline streams with a murmurous How, Meander through valleys ot green ; Its mountains ot jasper are rich in the glow Of a g'.ory to mortal unseen." At the vacant hearthstone an aged and ftoiuewbat infirm widow will tnonrn the loss of a beloved husband, the stiff of her de clining years, and children will miss the counsels and admonitions of a kind father ; but they all have the happy consol ition of knowing that his course through life as a husband, a father and a Christiau, was with out reproach, and that his hope of a blessed immortality was strong and assuring. His feeble frame now lies in its quiet resting place in Free Spring grave-yard, in Walker towrsiitp, there to remain uutil the Resur rection morn ; his spirit has returned to God who gave it. May we strive to imitate the good that was in him, so that w hen the hour of eternity 6trikes for us, we shall have as few faults to answer for as he, and depart as universally lamented. A FRIEND. "The intelligent juryman haa tmmortal iied himself in Colorado. One of the law yers in the case began browbeating a female witness. The juryman in question was a recklesa miner, who aeemed very uneasy as the sarcastic lawyer continued to make the Unshing witness feel uncomfortable. At last the juryman couldn't Und it any longer, and stood up, with one hand on his hip-pocket, and yelled: Hi, thar, Mr. Stick-in-the-Mud, Jack McCabe won't 'low no man to talk to a woman in that shape, not while he's round.' The Judge told to it down and be auiet, and as he obeyed, the lawyer superciliously said, Of wLat weight to me is the opinion of an ig norant juryman f ' 'That's what 1 thonght,' roared Jack, jumping np and going for that lawyer. The new of the dreadful fire disaster that overtook the town of Milton, araused many of the people in this place, who passed through such an ordeal, to live over again, as it were, the experience of the hours when Mifilintown was devastated by fire. It is an unpleasant fact to realitc, that w hile thousands of people are houseless at Milton, a large class of people are there to rob them of such things as they saved from the ruins, and to rob f rom such people as escaped with their property fro the gen eral calamity. It is an unpleasant fact to realize that soldiers had to be sent to pre vent the unfortunate people from being robbed of what was left.
