CHANGE OF TIME PENNSYLVANIA
RAILROAD.
A new time-table went into effect On the
Pennsylvania Railroad on Monday, the 12th
Inst., the following points of observation in
regard to wl.ich will be of interest to tne
traveling pub ic. The day express leaves
Pittsburg 8.2o a. "., city time, and arrives
at Harrisburg 3.55 P.M. Passengers on this
train for local points between Harrisburg
and Philadelphia, chat1 go cars ar.d take an
accotntusdation train leaving Mtrrisburg at
4.30 p. if. This train makes all stops and
arrives in Philadelphia at 7.30 P. M. The
Johnstown Express leaves Johnstown as be
fore, niaV.jg the n-cal slop as far as Fa !1,
from which joint to Philadelphia it runs

ricultural Association met in Squire Lou
don's office last Thursday afternoon, for the
trtosact'on of business.
The President, E. S. Psrkor, stated that
the object of the meeting was, or i, to
elect oSicers for the coming year, and trans
act mill otaer busiae as may come before
the meeting.
Wiliiara J. Jack man and W. S. North
were appointed Sectetaries of the meeting.
On motion the stockholders proceeded to
Dominate candidates for the office of Presi
dent of the Association. The names of the
following gentlemen wsre presented for
nomination : E. S- Patker, John Cunning
ham, S. B. Loudon, and Porter Thon pson,
but all and each in turn declined to become
candidate.
Robert McMeen and Dr. L. Banks were
put in nomination, neither of whom were j
present at tbe time of nomination. After j
balloting the vote stood Banks, 22 ; He- '
Meen, 41 ; and Mr. McMeen was declared
the President of the Association fur the
coming yesr. I
S. B. Loudon vras nomiuated for Secre
tary, and had no competition for the pusi- j
tion. !
A. O. Bonsall moved that W. S. North
be authorized to cast the 03 votes, as rep
resented in the meeting, for S. B. Loudon
for the office of Secretary of the Associa
tion for tiie coming year. The raotion was
seconded and carried without a dissenting
oice.
T. V. Irwin was nominated for the office
of Treasurer of the Association, and Por
ter Thompson was authorized to cast the 63
votes, as in the case of Secretary, after
which Mr. Irwin was declared to be the duly
authorized Treasurer of the Association for
the coming year.
On motion the meeting proceeded to the
nomination of a Bard of Directors. Many
were nominated, bat all declined excepting
eight the nctnber required by the laws of
the Association to constitute the Board of
Directors, with the President, who by vir
tue of his off.ee is a member of the Board.
The eight geLtlemen nominated were
James Adams, II. S. Cironir.ger, A. G. Bjo
all, R. E. Parker, Jerome Sieber, John
Cnnningham, Jacob Sulouff, Dr. L. Banks.
As there was r.o contest, on motion, Sam
uel Strayer was authorized to cast tbe 63
o.es for the Directors nominated, after
which the eight gentlemen named were de
clared duly elected as a Board of Directors
for the Association for the coming year.
The election of five Vice Presidents was
the next business for the Association. Quite
a number were nominated for tbe position,
and alter balloting once, the following
named gentlemen were declared elected by
the following vote :
W.P.Thompson, 44 votes; Henry Su
louff, 38 vctes ; James McAuley, -16 votes ;
W. D. Cramer, 42 votes ; J. K. Robison, 50
Totes. After which election, notice was
served on the stockholders by E. D. Parker,
from whom the Park was leased, that the
old lease had expired some time since,
whereupon the outgoing Board of Directors
was immediately called to consider the ques
tion of the lease.
The ontgoing Board authorized the Presi
dent and Secretary of the Association to
sign tbe lease, the main provisions of which
re : A lease of the Park for a period of
four years from tbe 8th day of May, 1S7 9,
at an annual rent of one hundred and twenty-four
do'!sra.

ruption. Rev. E. E. Berry is preaching a series of

ered on next Sabbath evening.
Tbe county Alma House, located at Shir
leysburg, Huntingdon county, was destroy
ed by fire on Saturday a week. The fire
originated through a detective fiue. The

tory for a considerable length of time."
A dispatch from Iudia says: General
Grant's departure from Lucknow Was ex
ceedingly stately. A long line of big ele
phants were stationed along the railroad
track near the station, a battery fired off a
royal salute, a military guard was drawn np
facing the station, and a band played one of
our national airs, while the British ollicers
and civilians stood with uncovered heads.
The editor of the Lewistown Gazette has
become a bondholder, and feels comfortable
in money matters ever since. This is the
way he told it last week in tbe Gazelle
We concluded a week or two ago to be
come a bondholder, not a bloated one, be
cause onr pocket would not stand that, so
we invested $10 in a refunding certificate
bearing four percent, interest, and no feel
easy on money matters."
Last summer a man aged about 60 years
was found in an insensible condition at tbe
Snyder county end of the bridge at North
umberland. He has since been taken care
of by a citizen cf Point township. His
right side is paralyzed and he is unable to
speak. On one arm is tbe name of Michael
Carl. It is hoped that if this reaches the
eyes of any of his friends or acquantances,
they will interest themselves in hit behalf.

impressive ceremonies. Visitors to Phila
delphia will do well to give a day to see the

The Philadelphia North J merman, speak
ing of tno receipts of grain in Philadelphia

That there are pockets of gold in tbe
country that were not drained by tbe high
premium of the war is evidenced by the
following from a Huntingdon paper : Mr.
Myerly, of Trout creek, loaned the commis
sioners of Huntingdon county SjOO last
week at 6 per cent. The mouoy was all in
gold.
fhe building of the bridge across the ra
vine in the old pike, at Thompson's lock, in
Delaware township, was given to G. W.
Smith, of this borough, he having been the
lowest bidder, both by the perch, and in
bulk. There were aixtecn bidders. The
bids reached from $1,603 to neaily $0,01)0.
The articles of agreement between the Com
missioners and Mr. So'ith were signed on
Mouday
Charles Raub's barn, in Wheattleld town
ship, Perry county, was destroyed by fire
last week. Along with the barn were de
stroyed 9 tons of hay, 50 bushels of wheat,
CO bushels of oats, 200 bushels of corn, 25
bushels of rye, horso-poner, wagon, win
nowml'l, horse-rake, all the other farming
implements, i.c. The w.-.gou-sbed and
chicken coop, ailjaiuiug, met a similar fate.
The insurance oa tbe property destroyed is
$1,600.

found near the station, close by the track,
in an Insensible condition, with wounds in
many places on his head. It is supposed

ing influences brought to bear in favor of

number of members who had been promised
money tor their votes. The parties who
offered the money say it was all a joke. To
bear the gentlemen testify would incline
the hearr to the belief that the whole busi
ness was a hiph joke, and il it were not for

of the Treasury, the Commonwealth might

Certi'.n members tf the Democratic party
profess to ba greatly alarmed lest United
Stairs troops be used to quell disorders at
tho polls. They were not so alarmed when
the Rebels were arming to overthrow the
government. They did not manliest alarm
when Rebel soldiers seize 1 United States
property, and persecuted all who dared to
offer tbe least oljec'ion to their work. If
thire had been no rebellion, soMiers would
not have been used to frustrate their revo
lutionary war in the interest of human
slavery. Only the man who csmmits mur
der need fear the gibbet.
Intelligence from Duncannon, Perry
county, says that about 4 o'clock last Wed
nesday morning fire was discovered in P.
T. Michner's large wsgon-maktr shop. The
building, with all its contents, and the
blacksmith shop, weie consumed ; also, Mr.
Joseph Haw ley's fine dwelling house. Four
other houses were on fire, but of the rest none
were buined down. It was the work of an
incendiary. Michtier's loss is estimated at
$1,000; no insurance. Mr. Hawh-y's house
was insured. Two tramps were arrested,
but they could not be iudicted lor tlie deed,
Consequently were left to tramp on.
Qroqnois Tribe, No. 42, I. O. R. M., par
ticipated in a parade on Monday altcrnoon,
in honor of Ihnir 23rd anniversary. The
procession formed on the Water street sids
of the hall, and, headed by the Juniata Cor
net Band, marched larosgh the principal
streets of Mifli in and Patterson. Between
thirty and forty members were in line. The
procession filed into tho Court House,
where the Triba was addressed by Dr. L. E

On Wednesday last, Mrs. Russell Fields,
residing near Orrstown, while in the act of
taking egjs from a hen's nest, in the barn,
near a vicious bone, had the terriblo mis
fortune to lose one of her ears. It seems
that she unthinkingly approached too near
the animal, when he seized the ear with bis
teeth and before eh-' could prevent it, the
brute tore the member from ber head.
Medical aid was summoned at once, but be
fore a physician arrived the wound bled
profusely, and in consequence, the unfortu
nate lady is lying dangerously it. It is now
feared that lock-jiw way take place.

secretary cf the meeting. Next in orier
was the election of officers and teachers to
conduct the School. Mr. B. F. Oliver and
Mr. George King were elected Siiperintcn

Sburtz, Secretaries; Miss Ella Claire aud
Mrs. S. E. Sburtz, Librarians ; Mr. Peter
Porrj, Treasurer, and Mrs. Myers, Mrs.
Furry and Mrs. D. Guyer, Managers. Miss
Annie Claire, Miss Clura Dimm, Miss Lizzie
Guyer, Xiss Sallie Schlegel, Mr. Myers and
Mr. Gurcr were appointed as teachers.
School every Sunday morning at half-past 8
