At tie recent Bedford count court
Ellen J. Null, widow of David R. Mull,
brought auit against Lewis A. Croose,
former I j a hotel keeper in Bridgeport,
to recover damages for selling liquor to
her husband by which be was intoxica
ted and while in that eoodttion was run
over by the cars and killed. Defend
ant, on the 23rd day of October, 1875,
sold liqnor to the husband of plaintiff,
and the proof was that when left the
bar room that night be waa ao drunk
that he could scarody walk ; that he
lived at Fair Hope, on the Bridgeport
railroad, and that in going home he at
tempted to board a passenger freight
train, waa ran over and terribly man.
gled. The plaintiff claimed $5,000
damages, and the jury after being out
fourteen hours, rendered a verdict for
$1,500. A motion for a new trial was
made. Tbia case ia of general import
ance to hotel keepers, and particularly
ao to the bondsmen of tbia onet because
he ia insolvent and they are held.
