two hundred thousand dollar, was sold at
suction last week for $3,475. The build

fountain in the world, and which cost twelve

During the thunder storm on tbe night of
the 19th insl., Hghining struck a hemlock
tree, 2 Teet in diameter, standing on thu
oauk ol Licking Creek, ou the farm nf Hon.
Lewis BurchtieM, and completely sliittered
aud destroyed it, scattering the pieces over
an area of about an aero and a half, aome of
them being found 270 faet from where the
tree stood. . The heavy top of the tree itsell
was thrown SO feet, leaving nothing stand
ing but a shattered stump 7 or 8 feet high.

gress and welfare ol the children in those
schools. Visitations of this kind encour
age both teat, ber and pupils, aud advance
tbe cause of popular education.
To the scholars, who so cheerfully re
sponded in bringing pictures, Bags and
wreaths, and helped to decorate our room
and make it attractive, we tender our
thanks, and we will carry with us the teo-
dereat lecollections of their regard and
