THE DEMOCRATIC DONKEY INVESTIGATING THE REPUBLICAN BARN.
Tnk SfUntl artist not bslng in an original mood this week, copies from the Crajtair, in picture and reading : "A Democratic Donkey; seiilg bow ill he had fared for a long tiaa, aada ap Ms mind at last to get atthe
fSod stored away for other animals. The donkey wis naturally so vicious and had ao many tricks that nobody cared to own him; ao nobody took care of him, ani the coas?qaeoea was that ha was often cold and hungry.
The IK mertic donkey was greatly grieved by and pretended to be surprised at this ; he would often run along the road Hipping his eara and gmmbling to bitnsoU, and anon braving to all the world to rouse it from its
etbargy, ahich consisted in not turning good animals out of the barn, and letting a vicious and stupid beast take their place. One day he set out to get into tbe barn and at the fodder, lie called hitusrlf a Committee of
Investigation, sad announced that he would show tp the vice of the other beasts in such a way that the good farmer would at once turn them out of door and pnt him in their stead. He saw hi opportunity ; a wind blew
npeu the barn doers, and just aa he waa about to walk majestically to the crib, another gust slammed the doors shut, and the foolish beast was caught howling Of tha ear. Ia his struggles he kicked over a trough of good
New tlampshire fodder, that he might have bad as well as not, had he only not been so fond of investigation. Even vicious asses will at some day learn that to prove vice in others will no, necessarily redound to tbeh Own
Credit, "bile, wbt!! only attempting to prove that others are more vicious than they, they should not carry investigations so far aa to put tbeir own ears in jeopardy."
