Last Triday, a short time before the Lew istown Accommodation passenger train was due, engineer J. C. Thompson started his locomotive bck to couple to a train loaded with stones at the tipper end of the Patter son Tard. When he drew the lever to check the engine, the machine proved Itself unmanageable, and sped back with unabated speed and collied with the train it had been hauling. " How the dxir was opened has not yet been-discovered as there were no marks of any kind about it. Tbe burglary was one of the boldest that has ever been attempted in this town, and only failed through the cour age displayed by Mr. Chambers. We are glad to state that our young friend is out of danger and that he will be about as usual in a day or two.
