On last Sunday about aeon this com munity was startled by the announce ment ii:at Miss Mary A. Eurria had been foand in her room dead, all of which waa true. The facts are these : Miss Burris waa a maiden woman, having a room in Mrs Re becca Pannebaker'a house on Chrry street. They two were the only occupants of the house, taut Friday Mrs. Pannebakcr saw Miss Burris the last time alive-. It was no unusual occurence for the latter to be away for a day or two at a neighbor'a, and when the former did not see Miss Burris on Satur day the conclusion naturally and immediate ly reached was that ahe was staying at some neighbor's place. On Sunday forenoon Mr. John Batesholtx called to inquire for the health of Miss Burris, he being a brother-in-law. His knocking at her room door brought no response. Tie room contained a bed ; it waa not rumpled. The owner evidently did not nse it oa the day or night in which ahe died. On a stand not far from where she lay, stood a coal oil lamp with no oil in it, all having been burned out through the wick. The old lady's spec tacles lay by her aide ; a stocking partly knit, with a needle with a few stitches on it, and a ball of yarn waa on the floor close by, all of which gave rise to the conjecture that death overtook her while she aat by her lamp knitting. Her nephew did not disturb ber, but informed the friends and Justice Krieder, who summoned the follow ing jurors : J. II. Simons, H. P. Seeds, W. B. Hak, J. L. North, Caleb Parker, and John Wagner, all near neighbors, to hold an inquest on the body, which was done, and a verdict rendered as follows : "That Miss Mary A. One of our intelligent farmers, sometime ago, conceived a good idea to get rid of tramps, and after a few months' trial the plan succeeded so well that he bas deemed it prudent to make it known for the benefit of his frieuds and neifh. bors. Tbe plan adopted was aj fol lows : lie prepared himself with sub stantial wood-saw and b'ick, and it was his intention, whenever a tramp pre sented himself and asked for lodging to bring oat the implements to the wood pile aod inform the gentlemen if he would saw wood for one hour, sup per, lodging and breakfast would be furnished him. He also prepared him self with a register in which to keep a rtcorj of the names of bis callers, to see if any would return the Second time. To his surprise, however, only two tramps visited his house in the space cf four months thereafter, and he believes that tbe nomads are possessed of some means of informing tLeir fel. lows cf the work before them, should they stop at this house, and they have since kept clear of the premises. Be. fore he adopted this plan be was visited almost daily by one or more of tbese scalawags, and this is evidence enough to his mind that gome one who had pre. vious'.y enjoyed his hospitality, had placed some hiercglyphie marks on his out-bouses and gate posts, thus noti fying his kind of the good heart pos sessed by the proprietor. Since then be believe these marks have been eras. cd, and all tramps, with the exception of the two mentioned above, have steered wide of our friend's tnsosion. We would suggest that others try this method, and we believe they will be raved a deal of trouble. Public Opin ion f Anwovncemest J.ft II.
