On Thursdsy last a car load of Llamas
were switched off here oa the Broad Top
railnad, and taken up to the mountains to
be kept over lor the Centennial. There
were some eight or ten of these. They had
come directly through from Peru, South
America, in charge of the party with them.
They looked the worse for their long jour-neya-.iaitagaVa
Journal.
Yesterday morning a ladj passen
ger on the Paci&o expresa west, which
ieavea this citj at 4:15, jumped from
the oars at some point between Dun
cannon aud Newport, while the train
was under beadaav, and she bas not
jet been found, although ever effort
baa been made by the railroad officials
to discover her whereabouts. It ap
pears, upon investigation, that the lady
was from England and Was en roule for
San Francisco, and bad been put on the
ears at New VorSc by a frund, who
stated that she was provided with a
through ticket, aud requested the con
ductor to keep an eye upon her, as she
was traveling alone, and was laboring !
ucder a slight attack of mental aberra
tion. During that portion of the jour
ney from New York to this point, the
lady, who was in the palace car, was
carefully looked after by the conductor
of the train, as w!i as the conductor
in charge of the car, and they noticed
cothiog uousaal in ber demeanor.
After the train bad passed Duncan-
non the conductor of the palace car
asked the train coniafltor what bad
become of the lady who bad boen placed
in bis charge. 1 he Utter stated tiiat
be bad last noticed ber at Duocaonon.
When the train stopped at Newport the
facts were communicated to tlio station
agent at that point, and all the trains
running betweeu that place and l'ui
c&nuou wore notified' to run carefully
and keep a lookout lor the body. Forces j or Csrt. I.oris Dkoak, of Fayette town
of Uica were sent along the liu? to search Pi candidate for County Auditor,
for the woman, and in the afternoon one j subject to the usages of the Republican
of the parties found a new corset on the I
traek, and a ebort distance further on
the lady's dress was picked up, in the
pocket of which was found ber wallet,
with a considerable amauut of money,
a tbiongh ticket from New York toSau
Francisco, California, and a bunch of
kevs.
The search for the body was kept up
during the day aud until late last even
ing, but without success. A uu tuber of
theories are advanced as to what became
of her. As there were no ft aces of
blood of portions of flesh or booe on
the track it is supposed she escaped un
injured. The railroad officials did
everything in their power to find the
lady if living or to recover ber body if
dead. Some persons are of the opinion
that she jumped into the Juniata river,
while others believe that she has made
her escape into the country, and will
turn up all right at some of the farm
houses. That portion of the road is
becoming notorious for jumping from
trains.
Several other articles of clothing be
longing to the missing passenger were
fonnd on tbe track to-day, and it is the
opinion of tbe railroad men that she
jumped into tbe Juniata and was
drowned. Uarrviburg leltgrapt, .tu-
