Tbe barn of Joseph Harshbarger, in Bratton township, barely escaped de struction by fire on Saturday afternoon last, under tbe following circumstances : Mrs. Uirshbarger was working in the garden, and bad set fire to a pile of rubbish, which she stirred np from time to time with a piece of rake handle, tbe end of which became charred. One of Ibe children took this stick, and car ried it about tbe garden and into the woodshed, where he left it. One of tbe men was digging garden, and as he went to tbe barn for manure discovered smoke issuing from tbe woodshed, which was full of dry rails etc. He ran for water, but be tore be got back tbe fire bad gained snob headway that a bucket of water was of no avail. He called assistance, and the farm bell was rung, i which attracted tbe attention of some railroad bands in tbe vicinity, wbo ! came to tbe reecne.
