List wee two posters were diiplsjf ed in onr Borough, one on the end of a stable down town, aed the other on tb residenoe of oar dealer in grave atones, announcing that a Democratic rally would take place in Mifflintown. and advising the people to turn out aud : bear the 'troth from a Democratic stand point. We reached MifRiotoro in due time, and wended our way to Gnjbill, Hall where we found a tolerably fair assem- blase, amongst whom we recognsced I 1 o "6 ! qiite a numbtir of Republican! who like u, were theie to hear what sight bi aiJ. After tuusic by the Perrys viile Cornet Band, wuish bad been en gaged for the cccaion, and the organi zation of the meeting, Mr. Suarpe from Franklin county, was introduced and delivered the first speech; bis mission appeared to be to warn the people of the danger of continuing General Grant in office for a third term, lie also dwelt at length upon tbe uusettled con dition of business, and attributed the bard times to the Republican paity. At the conclusion of his address W. S. Stenger, Democratic caudidate for t'ougress, was iutroduced. He is a jovial looking little fellow, and is a tolerably fair speaker, so far as de livery goes. lie too, bandied tbe third term, but appeared to have a terrible attack of Civil Rights, "on the brain". He denounced the policy of tbe Republican party, in attempting to to cloth the colored man with auy ad ditional power, maintaining that they enjoyed too many privileges already. From the teuor of his reuiorks his Chances of receiving any votes from the colored element are decidedly slim '.Vhile arraigning tbe President and ; Congress for tyranny and usurpation, neither be nor Mr. Sharps had a single i word to say agiinst the State adminis-1 tration ; so we may conclude that the affairs of tbe Commonwealth are being managed honestly and economically. Mr. Stenger speaks in earnest, and probably believes what he says, but he may as well save his breath, for Gen. Wister will wain triumphantly over the course without any difficulty. A sol dier who responded to the call of his 1 country in the boor of her necessity, an I who bears upon his body the marks of war, is certainly deserving of honir in return, and common justice demands that bis claims upon the country should be recognired in preference to those who stayed at home. The condition of affairs in the South render it a neces sity that tbe next fongress should be composed of men who will aid the Pres Hunt in enforcing the law and preserv ing life and property. Therefore let all true lovers of law and order vote for General Wister. Yours, respectfully, George. TOBT Eotal, Oct. 2C, 1S74. Preamble and Resolution, of MncerUTtLodge No. 351, I O. O. r.
