We make the following significant ex tract ; When tieneral Gcary was nominated, a series of resolutions was passed by the convention which named him as the Can didate of the "Union" party, and these resolutions contained matter very differ ent from the declaration of principles made at Chicago when Lincoln and Ham lin were nominated, and : t Baltimore when Lincoln and .Tohoson were nomma• led. 1 Alter the nomination was made we called upon General Clerkly to repudiate the offensive resolutions, but thus far hd . has not done so. The silmco of General Geary warrants the impression that he in tends to stand upon those resolutions, and it •is certain that they are not the platform of the Union. It is folly for any One to flatter himself with the belief that the radical element a!one can tarry an election in Pennsylva nia, even if the conservative Union men should simply refrain from voting. If any friend of General Geary will take the pains to calculate the percentage of votes which -the party now dominant in. the State can allord to lose, without incurring the certainty of defeat. he will find that it is very small • and if he will then esti mate the number of votes which the party whose popularity has mainly depended upon its being the Union party will lose by taking an attitude of ; hostility - to the Union, he may be able to form a judgment 94 to the prospect of General Geary's elec tion. if he shall persist• in standing upon the Harrisburg resolutions. In secordnnee with previous notice, a large mintier of honorably discharged eteers and soldiers met at the Buehler.llouse, Harris .burg; Pa, on Thursday afternoon, June 28th, to take into consideration the propriety of holding a State Convention of tioldiers and Sailor. favoring President Johnson's restora tion policy, and the election at !Hester Ciymer and opposed to the Radical Congress, and the action of the ' , oldlees Convention held at Pittsburg. a motion of Major Lewis, General Davis, of Bucks county, was unanimously elected as chairman of the meeting, Gen. Matthews, Colonels, Linton, Lyle, Leech and Owens, Major Lewis, ,t'aptain Weaver, and Lieut. foyer, were elected as Vied Preeldents, and Captains C. B. Brockway and J. A Graham, Secretaries. The room not _being large enough to hold the meeting, a motion prevailed to adjourn to the Democratic reading room. After Gen. Davis had stated the objeci, of the meeting, on !elation, Colonel Ent, Captain Woodruff, Colonel Lyle, Gen. Matthews, and Adjutant Becker were appointed a cominittee to report the time, pl ice and plan of holding the proposed Convention. While the committee was ail, Gen. M'Cand less. on invitation, addressed the meeting.
