by our Irish citizens in Farrar Hall, en Sat
urday evening, in honor of St. Patrick's bay,
was one of the most creditable occasions ever
witnessed' in the city. The Hall bed been
finely decorsted'and arranged' for the-perpcie,
under the supervision of a committee of ladies

performed speak in terms of the highest com
mendation for Ltheir taste and energy. Sus-
pended over the stage were banners , and
mottoes, and thaiwalls were ornamented with
pictures, wreaths and various embleniatio de
signs. Four rows of tablesecoupied the body
of the Hall,' which were loaded to their ut
most with the good things donated for the
purpose. A separate table for the - invited
guests was fixed up in a gorgeous manner.
The attendance of ladies -and gentlemen
exceeded any demonstration of The sort over
undertake; here, all parts of the Hall being
crowded to their tallest extent. It is estima
ted that not less 'than eight .ltutdred persons
were, present, and the sum realized must' have
been very large,

supper, Father Carroll; pastor of tie congre

and satisfactory manner. The speech of Mr.
Galbraith, in response to a sentiment in honor

mental, and some of the performances in this

The exercises closed at a late hour-, and all

gratified with the occurrences of the evening.

had been dispensed with, and not a solitary
instance, of drunkenness r transpired darieg,
the evening. The audience was as well be

The Canadian apprehension of - an Invasion

Shultz, with others of the principal leaders,
were executed, and the remainder were

Saturday, in
,Buffalo, at six o'clock the
morning, caused by a watchman upsetting a
can of kerosene oil near the stove. The
,flames spread rapidly -and - communicated to
the splendid elevator belopging to the snme
company. Both buildings were ..entirelly de
stroyed. There was a large number of oaded
iardin.the depot, and piles of freight wait
ing shipment. All was destroyed. About
40,000 bushels of grain were in the eleVator,
little or none of which wee saved.• The grain
was insured. The loss-on the elefator, depot
and freight cannot now be correctly stated,
but it is estimated at over $1,000,060.
