Rev. J. H. Stuakenberg has severed his
connection with the Lutheran congregation of

We have received from Mr. William Willing
a musical composition of which he is the au
thor, entitled "The Flag is at Half—Mast,"
and inscribed "To the Memory of Abraham
Lincoln, the Martyr President of 11565." Mr.
Willing has composed a number of musical
productions of a decidedly original class.

The collectors are busily employed at ga

The bounty appropriations of the last two
years swell them up to a high rate, and oom
plaints are general. Many persons decline
paying their bounty tax until the decision of
the Supreme Court is announced. litre in
come taxes are due at the office of polleator
Douglass en or before Juni - 80th.
The newspaper men of the city. oemplain,
and with justice, that at public meetings no
arrangements are made for the accommoda
tion of reporters. At every gathering of a pub
lio nature, a-desk should be specially provided
for the Press. Until this is doae,•no ooe can
properly complain of incorrect or defioient re
ports. We hope parties having these affairs
in charge hereafter will give the matter the
attention it deserves.
A communication on the subject of the pro
posed Lake Naval Depcit will be found in 'm
other place. This is a subject of great im
portanoe to our citizens, and should not be
left, like too many bther measures for the
benefit of Erie, quill It is too late to actoom
plish anything. if our prominent business
men will take. hold of the matter in the right
way, there. can be no doubt that vs shall suc

to the memory of Abraham Lincoln:" " Net.

The dustiatate of our streets during the
butt few days calls attention to the necessity
of using a sprinkler, and we have heard many
hopes expressed that some person would put
one in operation. If there is to be no sprink

State and Peach streets, for they :will be
choked with dust littfore the summer`is over.

One of the pleasantest social gatherings we

Brown's Rotel,. on Friday evening of last
week, as a compliment to Captain Roe, of the
Michigan, his officers, and Mr. John Dela'
camp, the gentleman employed by the Gov

company consisted of some sixty or seventy of
our hest known citizens, all of wbpm appeared
to enjoy themselves exceedingly. The speeches
of which there were, perhaps, a dozen or so,
were brig, pointed and genial, and thre'ont
the entire proceedings there was each a
predominant feeling of cordiality that we
were involuntarily °allied back is fancy to
