Mantas. GLO3I/812,1011 & Wsnou.—The
last number of the Swiday Mercury, of this
city, contains an editorial under the above
caption, making deservedly complimentary
allusion to a number of young men Who are
likely to render themselves conspicuous for
Intelligence, sagacity and efficiency, in the
Democratic party of this State. The writer
mentions Col. James K. Kerr, of Velango
county ; li. G. Smith, Esq., of• Fulton ; Mon.
W. A., Wallace, of the Clearfield district; and
Col. T. B. Searight, of Fayette. as among the
talented and conspicuous members of the late
State Convention, and argues froni their abil
ity and position, great prospective usefulness
to both country and party. I regret however,
that in this catalogue of honored names, that
of William A. Galbraith, Esq., of Brie, Was
not included. Conservative andcomprehen
sive views, thorough' acquaintance with the
polities of the country, unswerving devotion
to the great principles of Densoeratle, liberty,
profound knowledge of men, integrity above
suspicion, and a courage that never falters,
pre eminently at Mr: !Galbraith for the res
ponsible business of paity leadership ; and I
am gratified' to know that the Democracy of
the State are according him a prominence
due to his high character. I risk nothing in
predicting !or. Wu, a career, of which his
friends, personal and Politicel, may feel ijust
pride, and from which his country will reap
no mean advantage. .-

illustrating the absurd:creed of the Adminis•

points described in avi :Sumter:,
"A man once went tie a doctor for his wife
and asked him, " How! long hare you been a

hare you killed. is that tintl?" " Only one,"
said the doctor ; so the man hired the doctor
to ere his Wife, sad in • few days his wife
was dead. So the man asked him is great
wrath how it was possible be had-only MINT,

the doctor, "I only had Impatient." So the
