We copy its most important sea % teneeß : • "It has been some two months since a well of any size has been struck upon Oil Creek. Some ''parties are becoming considerably ex ercised about the matter, yet we do not feel that there is any just ground for serious alarm The daily yield has decreased in the put few weeks very msteriafly. The yield s'x weeks ago was estimated at 5,600 barrels. -The yield' to-day will hardly reach 4,009 barrels. The past fey weeks have been very Unfavorable for the producing business, the weather being too cold, in consequence of which but few of the pumping wells have been in operatiow. It may he possible that the drought of last slimmer exerci.ed -some influence. For it is a-fact patent to all miners, that the walls produce morn when the atmosphere is moist and heavy than when it is clear and light. * .The past season has not been so productive in its results as many were led to expect. The Noble and the Maple Shade Wells, are only -con.iderable ones that were struck and continue to flow now. Several others of smaller Liza were struck, hut being interfered with by other wells in the inalnediate vicinity, dill not amount to much. • • We are in clined to think that the wells efii becoming too nnmerons along the narrow valley where the nit is obtained. Many wells have been bored to a depth of five huridred feet or more, and failing to obtain oil have been abandoned. !he wastage of gas and the water from the water courses which have been opened in these, have produced the •esulta we have spoken of upon the producing wells in their immediate neighborhood." The Register gives as a remedy for these facts:-Ist, That the non-producing wells, of which there are countless numbers, should be filled up. thus preventing the 'waste of gas, and the flooding of good wells with water; and 21, Boring deeper. It gives some loci• d.tnts to sustain its theory, and concludes with the following suggestions : "From the frequent striking of mutt veins, it is assigned by some that the oil supply is becoming exhausted, and that these mud veins are the bottom 'or bed of the deposit. If so there is more reason to bore deeper and see if other deposits of oil cannot be found still be low these. We should be glad if some move- - [tient of this kind should be put on foot, and would be happy to hear from our oil miners of their practical experience in order that we can publish their views for the general benefit. In conclusion we re assert that ire do not feul alarmed for the failure of the present supply, but think it will be advisable to take all necessary measures to secure a permanent supply for the future." tiotu =The upward tendency in gold and! lexchange, it is thought will soon lead to an enlarged export trade. So far this month the export is 53,300,000 more than last year r the same time, which is mainly owing t the , mealier export in specie. While Weiti g on I this subject we may as well say that J: s.
