lir The "harmonious Republicans" are
having a good time among themselves, if
all we hear is true. They have organized
a club, but the club appears to be very
much like an Irishman's shillalah at Dona,
brook fair—it is handled in the middle,
and nips both friends and foes over the
head. At the meeting of the dub last
week, offieers were elected, and an Execu

this delicate matter, due caution was had ,
and the places tilled by "Whigs of ye an

"original" anti-slavery men, as represented
by the True American, or to that class of
"patriots" who left the Democratic party
for the Democratic party's good, as repre
sented by the "buzzum friend" of Came

told there was quite an amusing scene
when the officers came to be elected. The
list, officers, executive committee and all,
had been filled up, save one place on the
executive committee, by whip fossils, when
one of the faithful nominated Cameron's
"buzzum friend" to till the vacancy. No

In the Executive Committee is vested
nearly all the power and vitality of the or

We aro consequently greatly ratified to
have the name James ;. Payne, Esq., at

that a happier selection could not have

In view of this weight of responsibility,
nothing could be properer than that the

relieved in the matter. The Gaz4—tte must
expect—and doubtless does expect, to Lear
