0135.1 -11 1111 s liar There is one branch of manufacturein
this city, about which there is very little said,
and alzogether too little known among our cit
izens We allude to W . ; limseit Piano Manufac
tory, tut State Street We were through his es
taliltshrint the other day, and found on in
speot 11.111 some sixteen hands at work upon in
struments in all stages of construction, from
the rough wood and iron to the lest polish giv
en to the frames. It has been but &short time
, ince Mr. W. embarked in this enterprise, but
we are pleased to say he has met with marked
success. He has so far sold as fast as made,
and if we were to judge from what we saw,
with ample capital the business might be very
profitably extended. Of the character of the
insTruments turned out by Mr. W., we assert
a it h, confidence, they are equal in tone, and su
iteri4 in finish to any from the famous Chick
ering manufactory in Boston. In addition to
the Pianos manufactured, Mr. W. turns out a
large number of Melodeons in the course of
the year. as well as supplies several eastern
dealers with their Piano Stools. And here let
ua record in rarcuthesis, a fact that illustrates
the alacrity with which people sometimes buy
up articles manufactured at their own doors,
but which, to give them a saleable character,
have been subject to two transportations--one
Irony the manufactory to an eastern dealer, and
then hack to a western purchaser Some ti i.e
since Mr. W made a contract with a celeLra
-1(41 eastern Piano Manufacturer to furnish Lim
with a quantity of Piano Stools. The contract
was complied with, and in o. few mouths some
‘,l these identical stools were brought to this
city, soil iold to people who would have turn
,.l up their nose at the idea that such a supe
t tor article could be manufactured by one of
their own townsmen. And now, 'we might
with a good deal of propriety, preach a ser
mon, taking for our text this incident, upon
the nece.bity and propriety of sustaining our
own manufacturers and tradesmen, but it is
hardly necessary. Any one who will spend
half an Lour in going through Mr. W's estab
lishment will be fully convinced that, in the
I.ne .it Pianos at least, our city cannot be ex
er.led eithor in tone or finish by oven Chickor.

00' Speaking the fashion'', we cannot. say
that we fancy the present Spring style of hon•

we suppose will be the tun on our streets as
soon as warm weather sets in. The tout eeterta

tion There is a lack of both grace and taste,
to our mind, in the cavernous, overhanging.
pent-house looking roof of the new article,
and the capacious bulk which seems intended
to more than hold, and yet does n)t hold, the
dainty little head of its fair wearer It may
be that uur eyes, accustomed to the tiny flow
er-baskets, lace-bunches, and fruit and ribbon
piles that have been denominated bonnets by
the fair sex fur some time, are scarcely fitted
to contemplate without prejudice, as yet, the
current -improvement They may view
things differently by-and-bye. At any rate,
the new bonnet does pretend to protect, in a
slight degree, some portion of the female head;

se" Mr. FIYMST has read in the Senate a
bill to authorize the construction of the Oil
Creek Railroad. Its capital stock is to consist
of two thousamishares of SSOttach. The route
is to begin at Garland Station, a point on the
Sunbury tr. Erie Railroad between this city and
Warren, and to continue Southward to Titus
ville, and ultimately as far Southward as Frank
tin, the county seat of Venango, with power to
connect yeah any othwzraiiroad now construct

at Kittanning, to form a through connection
