U. S. 7-30 Loan.
Titr. Secretary of the Treasury gl*o» notice that sub
sct iptlona will bo received for Coupon Treasury Note*,
payable three years from Aug. 16th, 18C4, with semi-an
nual Interest at a rate of seven and three-tenth* per
cent, per annum—principal o»l Interest both to be paid
in Inwful money.
These notes will bo convertible at the option of the
holder at maturity, Info six per cent, gol J bearing bunds,
payable not lew than five nor more than twenty years
from their date, aa the Government may elect. They
will be Isjuod In denominations of $. r io, floo, f&00, $1,009
andff/,000, aud all subscriptions must be for fifty dollars
or somo multiple of fifty dollars.
The notes will be transmitted to the owuers free of
transportation charges na soon utler the receipt of the
original Certificate of Depoalt aa they can be prepared.
As the notes draw iuterent from August 15, persons
making dop<*its subsequent to that dato must pay the
Interest accrued from dute of note to date of deposit.
Parties dep .siting twenty-five thousand dollars and
upwards for these note* at any one lime will be allowed |
a commission of one-<|uarter of one per cent., which will
be paid by the Treasury Department upon the receipt of
a bill for the amount, certified by the officer with whom
the deposit was made. No deductions for commissions
must be mado from the deposits.
Special Advantages of This Loan.
IT IS A NATIONAL SAVIN*;* BAND, offering u higher rate
of interest than any other, ami Ih s but itrurity. Any
savings batik which pays its depositors in U. 8. Notes,
considers that It is paying in the beat circulating medium
of the country, and It cannot pay In anything better, foi
its own nas'iN are either in government ■eeurltlee or iu
notes or bonds payable In gevernment paper.
It is eqaally couveniet na a temporaly or permanent
investment. The notes can always be sold for within a
fraction of their faco and accumulated Interest, and are
the best security with banks as collaterals for dix' uuts- .
Convartiblo into a Six per cent. 5-20 Oo!<l Hond.
In addition to the very liberal interest on the notes for
three years, this privilege of conversion I* now worth
about three percent, per unnnm, f>r the current rate for
5-30 Bonds Is not less than nini ptr cent, premium, and
before the war the premium in six per cent. I/. 8. stacks
was over twenty per cent. It will be seen that the ac
tr.al profit on lonn. at the present market rate, Is not
thau ten pqr cent, per antiuin.
Its Exemption from State or Municipal Taxation.
But aside from till the advantages wo ha"o enumera
ted, a special Act of Congress exempli all bonds awl
Treasury notes from tucal taxation. On the average,
this exemption is worth übout two per cent, per annum,
'fccording to tho rate of taxation in various parts of the
country.
It id believed that no securities offer so great induce
ments to lender* as those Issued by the government.—-
lit all other forms of indebtedness, the faith or ability
of private parties, or stock companies, or soparute com
munities, ouly, Id pledged fur payment, while tho whole
property of the country Is held to secure the discharge
of all the obligations of the Uuiled Stales.
While the government offers the most liural terms
for Its loans, it believes that the very strongest appeal
will be the loyalty and patriotism of tho people.
Duplicate certificates will be Issued for all deposit*.— j
The party depositing must endorse upon the original ,
certificate the denomination of notes required, and
whether they aro to bo issuod itr blank or pay aid a to or
der. When so endorsed it must be left with the officer
receiving the deposit, to bo forwarded to the Treasury
Department.
