Kr WILLIAM RABB is repairing and en
larging the interior part of his store room on
Main street in this town. Every body
seems to be either repairing or erecting new
buildings this spring in Bloomsburg. One
or our cotemporaries, P. John, is trying his
Land in remodling his dwelling house.
'fir Where ' it, CHASE going to get his

think not. One of tho fathers of Aboli

be the Democratic nominee.
TIIE laying of the Corver-Stone of
the Lutheran Church at Buck Horn, trill
take place, as was announced in our last, on
Sabbath next, the 14th inst., at to o'clock
in the forenoon. The public are reaptictfully
invited to attend the exereiies. The con
gregation and frii?uds of religion are erecting
a tine church building. The Rev. .1. )1.
Ennnerson, of Selinsgrove, is expected to
askist in the exeleis.
WII/MYER & JACOBY have fitted up,
in connection with their confoetiouery store,
a splendid ioe cream saloon• It is furnished
in such a manner as to attract unusual at
tention, and is the object of universal coin
meat. They have, every evening of the
week, ice cream served up in all its popular
flavors; and they arc pleased to have their
numerous friends call in and test its good
qualities. •
ter Qctrx a good deal of inquiry as well
. as anxiety was expressed a few days ago over
a rather strange personage who was observed
perambulating our streets, on acicount,notso
much from the fact that he was not known,
but that he presented so snug and dandy
lying appearance in his entire dress. The
whole matter was fully explained, (his name,
business and nativity,) after it was ascertain
ed that he had purchased his clothes at A. J.
Evans' Clothing Emporium, in this town. *
Wir CHARLES E. SAVAGE bas remov
ed his finc clock, watch, and jewelry store
opposite to where ho was located, to Coen
gat's new brick, on Main Street, where his
old as well as new custom, rs will always
find him ever ready and to servo
them in his line. He has a splendid jewel
ry oriee, well filled with *fine and fashiona
ble aseortment of jewelry of every descrip
tion. Give him a cell, at his new establish
moot. He pays special attention to the re
pairing fit' clocks, watches, and jewelry.
Warer's the use of concocting a new
story when an old one will &newer the pur-
pose ? Everybody will respond, saying there
is noltse. It is the same with a customer,
whowise finds that be can get everything he
*am, and at the rigia prices, at a certain
store, he's not going to quit dealing at that
establishment. This accounts for J. J.
Bums. having such a large run. He keeps
goo4s of Bret quality, and his prices are
atamtbe /owed. His late summer stock
is attracting an unusually large number of
customers to his store daily.
IV Wit notieed the other day while pass
ing Acing Market Street, southward, that
several of the citizens living on that street
*re moving their dwelling houses further
back, and by that more widening the street
to its tuil width. This improvement will no
doubt add much to the appearance of that
portion of the town ; but while it does that,
a lure majority of the tax-payers in the
ootunty are opposed to having osy part of
the expense paid out of the County Trea
sury, as will be done under the present man
aiguuent. This is the same Street that
created groat esei tetnent through the nounty
n few years ago. Thn opening of it was
agitated for several mouths at that time, and
then finally abandoned until the pant few
months, when the project wag ugnin and
apparently suotawfully renewed. We most
likely shell have more to my upon this sub
ject.
IS . UNDER the Standing Rules the Del
egate elootions will take place In this county
on Saturday the •26th' of July' nett ; six
weeks from nest Saudi,.
---41.111.40 •
yii E. P. Ltrrz, of this town, has com
inenoed the erection of a new drug store on
his own lot, adJaoent to his dwelling, and
nearly opposite his old store, below Market
Street. Thus the steady lough of im prove
inent goos on.
=I
gar Tux laying of the Corner-Stone of the
State Normal Suhool Building at Blooms
burg, will take place on Thursday, the 25th
inst. The public are cordially invited. We
understand that Hon. William Hopkins, of
Washington county, is expo:Asa here to de.
liver an address on the ooaasion- We are
pleased to know that this enterprise is mak
ing such commendable progress; which is
due, mainly, to the untiring energy and seal
of Prof. Henry Carver, Principal of the
Bloomsburg 'Literary inatitute. We are
also glad to announce that the people of
this town and vicinity, more generally feel
disposed to place their shoulders to the
wheel and help this enterprise along than
they did at the out-start. All movements
towards the promotion of the cause of edu
cation should be festered and enoouraged.
It Is the zloty of every good titian to do this.
Since writing the above we have been in
formed that Gov. Geary and Prof. Wicker
sham, State Superintendent of Common
Schools, have engaged to be present.
