office—never had nor never shall. The sub
scription list of the DEmocuAT will compare
favorably with any paper in the District,
and as to the getting up and ability displayed
in the paper, no one is responsible for or
entitled to credit, but those who are imme-

of every "tub standing upon its own bot

tar IN consequence of the rapid thaw on
Sunday last, the water finding its way into
the oellar of Mr. Shire's Manufactory on
main street, he has been obliged to suspend
operation for the past few days. The water
not being able to puss through the culverts,
forced its way off in another direction, reach
ing several collars on the south side of Main
street, an occurrence that has not happened
for many years. The water in the cellar,
by the engine, in Mr. blhive's Mannliuetory,
is several feet deep, and ran only be remov
ed by being pumped out.

at®' WE NEE]) a borough charter fig this
place, and a heavy police organization, the
wont - kind of a way. If those grand jurors
who opposed the granting of a charter to
Bloomsburg, at our last court, could see and
experience one-halt' the danger to which
ladies and gentlemen are exposed in this
town, almost nightly, by coming in contact
with crowds of rowdy boys, intoxicated and
bent on doing all the mischief possible, thew
jurors would not hesitate one moment in re
scinding their action• It was only last :int
nrilay night, that a young man going along
the street, not molesting any one, was stab
bed in the abdoman. The wound is not
fatal, but is frightful and is inflicted at a
critical place. A warrant was immediately
taken out for the arrest of the guilty party,
but the perpetrator of the doi# has not yet
been found.
IrifirA FAitssit writing to Baugh Si Sons,
says he used their Raw Bone Phosphate
het spring, and found it to he all its friends
claimed for it—used it on corn, broom corn,
potatoes, Mrawberries, and the various kinds
of vegetables, with the most satisfactory re
sult. Another one says, owing to the ex
cessive wet weather his corn did not mature
properly, but he is satisfied where he a ppli e d
the Phosphate there was 50 per cent. more
COM than where it was not used. Another
used it on eight rowed yellow flint corn
which he found to be larger and more pro-
Mc than formerly—the cars being 11 to 12
inches long, and three fourths of the crop
showing 12 to 14 rows per ear—this land
was in a high state of cultivation and had
never given such results before.
