When:your. horse balks he is ezdtail and
borne% know what you want him to do.
When he gets a little netted stop him eve
or ten minutes; let him became calm ; go
to the balky horse, pat him : and as soon as
he is xover his excitement, he will, in
nine eases out of ton pull at the word.
Whipping and slashing and swearing only
make the matter worse. After you have
gentled awhile, and his excitement has cool.
ed down, take him by the bit, and too him
each way for a few winutee,as far as you can
pull out the toung, gentle him a little, un
rein him, then step before the balky horse
and let the other start first ; then you can
take them any where you wish. A balky
horse is always high spirited and starts
quick ; half the pull is out before the other
starts first. By close application to this
role, you can make any balky horse pull.- -
If a horse has been badly spoiled, you should
bitch him to an empty wagon, and pullit
around awhile on level ground ; then put on
a small load, and increase it gradually, ca•
resting as before, and in a short time you
eon have a good work hong.

How TO HAVE HEALY POTATOES.—It
is a very common thing in the spring to find
strong potatoes on the table, unless care has
been taken to select and pre4erve them. A
poor potatoe is the poorest article or fund
that can be had ; as soon as they beam to
sprot they begin to grow poor and waery
the better part of the root going to suppot.
the sprouts ; hence to have mealy .;
toes, it is necessary to keep them from ex•
Laustilig themselves in this way. An ex
change gives the following method of pre
ventiug the potatoes from sprouting, which
we hope will be tried and approved : Take
rood sound potatoes, and place them in n
tub or barrel, and pour boiling water on
them, let them remain in the water until!
the eyes are scalded so they will not sprout :
dry the potatoes thoroughly in the sun, and
put them away in a box or barrel in a cod
dry place. This will give good mealy pota
toes all the time.—Germatown Telegraph
