hour of midnight our eiti7ens wcre. arowed
by the terrible cry of Fite! The eyes of

The large frame barn and stable of Mr. M.
C. Sloan. situate in the heart of the town,
was a mass of flame soon after the tire was
first flit encerc , l. It was not closely connect
ed with any other buildings except on
the south side. Here was a frame dwelling
within perhaps twelve feet of the burning
barn and it is owing to exertions of more
than hcrenlian character, made by our citi
zens. that the lire was not communicated to

damage might have been serious indeed.

what is more distressing to think nf, and
what grieves the owner nearly as much as
the loss of the building, is, a favorite rfoo
