Wc respectfully propose to the
Opposition party in this istuie, as a
mentis of prt'.-cnting a unitcJ front in
tin; outset of thu comiiitr earn p.iirn,
l!io names of the aliove entleint'ii for
tlie ofli -es iinlicuk-.l. They are not
only honest ami competent men well
qualified in every respect but also
popular, and well deserving. It will
lie rememhere 1 that three years ago
Mr. 1'UEl.rs was cheated out of iho
office of Auditor General, and Mr.
Cochhax was defrauded from being
Canal Commissioner, by the ballot
box stuffing in Philadelphia, and by
the false cry of "lJuehan in and Free
Kansas.7' Mr.LiPoisTE was defeated
also, but as the election of CoLSLira:
for Slate Treasurer is irenorally con
sidered as a success of the North, the
selection of Messrs. Phelps and Coch
ran representing the West and the
Kast seems most advisable. Willi
mi early union on these men, there is
no doubt of their success by an unpre
cedented majority. The people will
not anaiu lie delude 1, nor can the late
Administration party be re united.
Urethreu of ihe 1'ress ! will you not
submit this proposition to your read
T3? It depends upon ourselves by
oar patriotism, fairness, w isdom, and
in ideraiiou to win the most brilliant
political victory ever achieved in our
."rate. Such a result, now, would ren
der almost certain the triumph of Free
Soil an I Free Labor in 1WJ.

T!i3 Dlviii.n between tli-s Packer
and the IJ-K-Iianan wings of the "Im
IMsitios P.i:tY," is widening. The
Buchanan-pensioned 1'm'un is defend
ing the late Office -Holders' Conven
tion, while the Packer-fed .S-ntiml is
clamoring for the real Convention of,
the unbou'jht, unbiased members of the
party, to be held on the 12th inst.
The names of huudieds of staunch old
Democrat?, from all parts of the State, 1
have been sent to this call. It is as-!
eerted that Senator Douglas iscngag-
cd in this rebellion. He doubtless:
wants to whip IJuchanan in this Stale
I'uchanairs own as he did in his
Douglas' own State. It will be
found no easy task for Uachauuu an J
his Slavery allies to prostrate Packer,
Douglas, a-iJ ail the Auti-Lccompton
Democrats of Pennsylvania. It i yet
too early to calculate, but there are
tlios; who predict that Packer will
beat Puehanan out of sight.... It is
none oi our quarrel ; we had enough
of that three years ago Whigs, Ke-
publicans, Americans, ami AntiSla-i
very Democrats', have only to stand
united keep out of their frays go!
straight forward in their own way,

Mr. Wagonseller wrote that the
Water Biil, to which we referred last:
week, is not printed, and all he wants 1
to know, is the will of our people in
the matter. The vote of the Borough
is required to make it a law. i
There is no probability of the re- '
peal of the Tonnage Tax. Mr. Wa- j
gonseiler and Patterson both spoke
against it, ami put themselves on the
record in favor of Mr. Chase's bill'
to require the Penu'a Railway to com
ply with its obligations and pay in-'

forfeit its charter. i
The Passenger Railway Bills iu

Notwithstanding a powerful speech
from Ueuben Keller Buckalew's suc

Supreme Court, at Sunbury, (or rather
removing it to llarrisburg.) by a vote
of 27 to 4! If it pass the House,:
vc must go to llarrisburg for Supreme

Mr. Hottenstine at last present-'
cd several petitions aint annexing
the "upper end"' to Union County.
These petitions have been brought!
forth with great labor, and as Mr. II.
Las delayed action until this time, the
measure probably goes over until ano
ther j ear.
An act relative to Shamokin Dam,
passed the House.
Senator Gregg read a Bill for a
Ferry at Union Furnace, Winlield.
The supplement to the Lewisburg

The Governor's veto of an appro
