It will be bcuted ou (be wot bank of tbc river to Li-wb-burg : tbcoco to tbe cast end of Pry Valley, there, taking a westerly direction about four miles, will j run to lVnus deck, which it will cr.-s? aud cuutinue ou tbc west side to Selin prove, and on this side of tlio river down to the Juuetion and Hanisburg, where it will intersect with tbe Lebanon Valley Koad, which is counoctcd with the Head ing road. Tho dist inco of the contemplated road, is about seventy live miles ; and its cost, rolling stock included, is estimated at two million dollars. Hut, in our opinion, this is too high. Tho entire routo presents almost a dead level, and we believe the cost for grading would not reach eight thousand dollars per mile, amounting in tbc aggregate, to but little over one mil lion one hundred thousand dollars. The bridge, however, across tbo Susquehanna, Blight be estimated at one hundred and fifty thousind dollars; which would bring the cost of the road (o some thirteen buu dred thousand dollars. Should (his enterprise be consummated and there is no reason for a doubt I'biladelphia will have a direct line of Kiilroal to Lake Krie. Tbe Northern Central road belongs to a ISaltiraorc company, which will naturally resort to every possible expedient to bene fit tbeir city through tbe medium of their road. And it is a fixed fact that the Sun bury and Erie road can not be extended through the mountainous region lying be tween Suubury and I'otUville, and which has been abandoned. Tbcrcforc,to secure the Like trade, Philadelphia has but one alternative, and that is to turn its attcn tion to this road and see that it is built. Sixty miles of it would be located through a magnificent and productive region of country which is not yet tapped by any other road. Its travel, and the tonnage of agricultural as well as of mineral products along this route, would be unciualled, by any road of equal distance in the State. We hope the citizens of Lcwishurg and Selinsgrovc will the proper effort to pro cure a Charter, and have a Survey and Draft uiaJo to lay before Lebanon Valley and Eric compauics and tbc citizens of Philadelphia. The tonnage and travel of these roads would bo greatly increased, while I'biladelphia would be bcuifited to an cxtcut not to be reached iu any other enterprise involving the same amount of capital.
