Opposition State Convention.
We pu'dih above trie call l r a St tie Con
vention t be hrld in Harnbnn:. on Wednes
day, iCe i4'h day nl July next, tor ttio purpose
ot nominating Stat Otiirers and the transac
tion of such other business as the exigencies '
Fiiay di'innnJ. In remarlrinn upou thiu call, i
the IIarriburg T-itrtttih savs that the ground
upon w hich action is de-irrd, and co-operation
invited, is broad and coinpreheiiNive. '
There is in it no policy broached that should
not secure for it a hearty and generous re
,spinse, and that not eminently just, cuti.se r-
vanve and national.
In the next State content, the result ivill be
iipn the issues forced upon the people by the
Kan-as policy of the Administration, and
vill be deemed, both at hono and abroad.
ither as an endrtrsf merit or onidemntttfon of the
President's course. As to the sentmcnt of
the peop of the State, there can be no mi'J-nndt-r.stat.din
it is overwhelmingly opposed
t" the I.ecompton swindle ; and were the di
rect issuo presented to them, there would be
a decided rebuke Rivn, by their decision, to
the political tondies nf the Norihwho have
aided the South in foi-tms upon the people o'
Kansas a Constitution w hit h is not t hi r
rhoosin;, and enlaiiiu upon the Cvuntiy at
larpe all thore evils which have crown out of
renewed and unnecessary agitation. All,
then, whatever may have been their political
proclivities, who are oppostd to the Admin
istration policy, should rally upon the broad
platform presented by the call. The lime has
g'ine by for hair-splitting adherences to the
fames or tenets of party. Political Denioc-;
racy has drifted far from it ancient land-,
marks, and in its confession of faith presents
to its rVciples but one creed, svnd that is sre- '
ER-iE!vrT to the tutTF. puwrn. The Kan
sas policy of the Administration is the em
bodiment uf that creed, and upon it the Pros- ;
ideutS party have staked their all. Those of
th Democracy who were compelled to take
issue with the President upon this kanasism
bave been denounced, and forced wiihoutjhe
p.iVs of the party ; and their acquiescence in
Mr. Ruchanan's policy is now boldly announ
ced as the only Condition upon which they;
can be a nam taken into fellowship.
In view of these things, then, the importance
of a union of all citizens opposed to the Le
eompton swindle, must be apparent ; and the '.
h pe is expressed that there may be an action ;
corresponding with the universal sentiment of
the Opposition. The question and the on
ly one involved in the approaching canvas?,
i. Shall Pennsylvania endorse the scries of
outrages which have been perpetrated by the
A iininisif ation, at the bidding of the Slave
- oligarchy, upon the people of Kansas! Or
shall our proud old Commonwealth, in re- ;
sponse to the heartfelt sentiment of hrr peo- i
pie, speak i-ut a bold and indignant rthuke?
These are the views, a near as we can gath
er them, of the entire Opposition to the Ad
ministration policy with regard to Kansas;
and snch are th? inducements which will be
urged for a thorough organization.
