Say Ames '. Larkiu Moore was- a half
crazy, wandering, lazy fellow, who used to
amuse ilia people in and about Newburi
port with his ecccutrieiliea and music, for
Larkin had a host of old songs.hjmns and
gnatches of melody, which he rendereJ, in
a plaintive voice, to familiar airs, and en
tertaining crowds would gather around hiiu. j
Many of .these songs needed only to bo
clothed in better words, and they would ;
take their places among the verses that men
J'would not willingly let die." Fur exam
pie, one of Larkiu's songs caught the ear
of a true poet, who dressed it up, aud it
now commences :
"A ITcrim cli:nl.l tl' mountain beUM,
Aaeaili-d l-J aluriu ai.d aiiow."'
Larkin went to church one Suuday while
at Taunton, and parson Whitney was exer
cising his gifts, which were few and gmall.
His sermons were noted for their great
length, and very little depth ; for their
want of thought, and the Teacher's want
of energy ; so of ten-times seitned as if he
would come to the end,if he had Lut spirits
enough to bring hiaiself to stand sliil.
Larkin walked up the aUe and took his
seat about midway. He listened longer
than could have been expected of such a
rettless mind as his, while hroily, secondly,
thirdly.fourthly.ar.d sotn to the seventhly,
were severally announced and expatiated
on ; and then exclaimed tho minister,
"arfc.if tlall 1 say more ?''
"For mercy's sake," cried out Larkin,

Ma. 0 IIintoK: lfcR i It gives me great plea
sure to lent my feeble influence, iu recommendation o
yonr invaluable Patvnt Cider Mill. Any person who hns
made rider b the old process will quickly perreivevxhould
they procure one of your new Mills, the utility and econ
omy ot your invention I regard it as one of the beet in
ventions now in use. Althoueh I have had it but one
year, it has amply repaid me for what it eort. Cider ex
preMed through one of your marhine is lew liable to fer
mentation, and can be preserved sweet longer than that
produced through the old fahkndd Mill, from the very
fret that it is more true from pommel, which always has
a leudeney to aridity, and unfits it to many intnnc-r lor
duint-stie use. Yours, rt-pecUully, t . Ut'lULK V.
This is to certify, tbat I purchased Of I. Landretb. In

have had it In use ever since. Perlectly satic ITed with it

ful and ipdispensable Machine to the farmer. W ith it,
one man and two boys ean make fi-pm five to six barrels

purchsaed similar Machines. The Mill has been greatly
improved since 1 boua mine. V. li. WAK1.
