Reeder Dot having been chosen pursiiaut

Atrocious Fraud on tbe Public !
taatur tan nimt or tkk kihthtoi
We learn from the Philadelphia press, that
Huliis who was charged wiih ronuterfeititi
so extensively the labels of Holluwaji's Pills
has ben conunitleJ to MoyamenMiig jail lor
trial in default of bail. The examination
showed that the immense sale of Holitiway's
Remedies in this country had Ion; since exci
ted the cupidity of a class of miscreants known
as "medical counterfeiters." The establish
ments of Professor Holloway, in everv citv of
the Union, had been closely watehed, the ex
tent of their business ascertained, and finally
a system of counterfeiting planned out, which
in extent rnd masniinde. ha- prooahly never
been equallrd in this or anv othr Country.
We hope the fortunate arrest of the chief
conspirator, Mollis, will tend to explode the
whole scheme; all the materiel of the rascally
combination is now in the hands of the po
lice. It is somewhat difficult to counterfeit
the remedies of Professor Hollowav wiih im
punity. His azenu "over the land." con
stituting an ever present " vigilance commit
te" whose Argus eves are ever open t his
interests and the inirrest of the sick, which
are in fact "one and inse parahlr." Mollis
aod his cant; forgot this independent medical
police, ever on ihe alert, and all in direct
communication wiih ihe office in X- w YorU.
Tney left out of their ea'eulatinns the bound
less pecuniary resources o Professor Hoi.
lowav, and nndrr-esiimatet his zeal and liber
ality when engaged in hunting down the dou
ble knaverv that tampered wiih the public
hralth while it soiiiin to rob him of his rep
utation. The limelv discoeertf of this srhenic
of wholesale rascality, will, we trust, he a
warning t , medical-roanierfri'ers." The
ooinierfeit plat's, labels, Ac., are all in 111'
hands of the authorities of Philadelphia, and
the conspiracy is nlieily crushed. Its effect
has been to exhibit in a nYire striking light
the unpanl eled popularity of II dlowav's
Pills for oniv against the leadirt? medicine of
the age would such a scheme bare been or
ganized. .
v 'It H-onld be well for the trde to he on their
ffuard against similar frauds i,r th future.
One scheme of imposture is put uown, but tbe
popularity of ihe medicines may give rise to
others. .V V Nil. Pol. Ciizrltr.
