vings Institution, a parkage containing
$7,000 in cash and cash fuuds, advauced
(in accordance with the agreement at the
late Convention in Millheim) by subscrib
ers to the Lewisburg, Ceutcr & Spruce
aVreck Railroad in Miles, llaiucs, IVuos,
and Gregg townships. A noble start

1200 less than at the the "meeting on
the HilL" The weather was unfavorable,
(Tuesday evening last.)
"Nephews of U.nclm," since the suc
cess of Louis Xapoleon.are very ambitious.
First follows Andrew Jackson donelson,
the "nephew"' of Old Hickory; next bully
Brooks, "nephew in law" of licTLF.lt; and
last of all Breckinridge, also "nephew of
bis uncle" who preaches up Slavery from
the Bible ! The four make a "purty pair '."
John Milton Niles, late Post Master
General and U. S. Senator from Connecti
cut, died last week at Hartford, aged CO.
Like most of the leading men of the Jack
Bon and Van Buren administrations,he had
ranged himself with the Republican party
for the coming contest He leaves a fund
of $20,000 for the poor of Hartford.

man cheated each other badly in trading
liorsea, both warranting their beasts ; one
wanted the Justice to help him trade back,
but the Justice declined.

Sntder. A frieud in Freeburg writes
to us, that "Snyder now presents a lively
apect. Farmers are busily cngiged with
their corn, preparatory to hay making aud
harvest. The grass and winter crops gen
erally look well Pr. J. B. Howcr, an
active and energetic citizen of Frecburg,
has left for Lykinstown, Dauphin Co.,
where he purposes practicing medicine and
klso editing a paper. There is therefore
n excellent opening for a good physician,
which we hope will soon be improved.
We wish Dr. H. success in his new home
and avocation William C. Adams, a
young Attorney at Law, from Juniata Co.,
bas located in onr midst,and promises well.
Sir. A. will no doubt, by industry and at
tention to business, acquire many friends
and a good practice The Spring Term
of Freeburg Academy closed on Friday the
13th lost, with an examination. Certifi
cates of Standing and Scholarship were
given to the Students in presence of the
President and Trustees of the Academy,
when abort aud appropriate addresses were
delivered by Rev. S. Gutelius, Rev. C. G.
Erlenmeyer, and Messrs. M'Farland and
Miller. A large andienc were in atten-
dauce ; also the Frecburg Urass Hand,
which added much to the interest of the
occasion. The whole number of students
attending during the last term was 107.
The next term commences on the 28th of
July, and will coutiuue 22 weeks."

is hoped Ihat each Collector will give every
person in his duplicate an opportunity lo pay
