to canvass different 1'iotricts, and procure

CirAVe have been so busy this week in
taking money and giving receipts, seeing
old friends and Coding new, a ruh of job
work, and other pleasant things that we
Lave no time to attend to our X ws Items
from other counties, or to attend '-Coort,"
and go to press late Thursday evening, iu
a considerable hurry at that.
The Two Routes.
From Lcwisburg to Ppruee Creek is 7?
miles as surveyed, and may be reduced so
that the distance from the I'a. Central
Road to flie jutieti n of the Cattawis.- i,
near Poltsgrove, woull Lc say SO miles.
Tyrone to Lock IJaveo is b- miles, aud
thence to I'ottsgrove say 55( wiles 113
miles.
The distance from Spruce Creek to the
Cattawissa is over THIRTY .MILES
SHORTER than from Tyrone to the same
point a gain of over one ynltr iu dis
tance. s5aaJ Some cf the tax collector, now in
Snyder county, were iu attendance at Lcw
isburg this week, and paid over moneys to
our Treasurer as contemplated by the Law.
From what wc learn we doubt not the
eenseand native love i f honor of tho au-
thorities of both counties, will prevent auy
irritation and waste of the people's money
at the instigatiou of lawyers.
ISTThe Miflliuburg SVr of last week,
states that the citizens of that Rorough
have subscribed 810,000 of stock to the
Lcwisburg, Center & Spruce Creek R. R.

these fair figures nevtr be 'modified''
away like the 5,000 rjuininc pills per day
and other similar errors in figures that we !
wot of!)

Well, the long-looked for, long-fought
for "Institution" arrived in town over bad
roads and in an uncommon dense fjr, on
j Monday tuuriiiug last, and more people in
! attendance than would have appeared at
New Berlin oo such a day. JudgcWlLSON
being withing a mile or two of bis native
place, feels cutirely at home ; Judge Mar
shall is similarly situated ; but iiluess
prevented Col. IIciil from appearing.
At 11 o'clock, a deputation of members
of the bar conducted the President Judge
to the Court room, and tho former Crier

Tuesday. The trial of Jacob Stuck on :
the charge of larceny, occupied a good
share of the day, and resulted in his dis- j
charge. John Kimple, rf West Ruffaloe, j
had his bouse entered while be was absent i
at the last Spring'd election, and robbed
of several hundred dollars iu silver and i
gob the fruit of many years of careful
industry and penurious economy. He is ;
70 years of age, aud while his simplicity 1
and venerable appearance excited sympa
thy, bis course iu hoardiug up his money I
instead of putting it to nse somewhere, j
was shown to be as wrong as fooli.h, for it
would have more than doubled in value to .

road to our county, aud argued the superi

Lock Haven.
Hon Joseph Casey, upon invitation, al

of making too many channels of intercom
munication between the Atlantic Seaboard
and the Lakes and the Great Valley, link
ing the broad and fertile territory each
side of our own Allegheny, soon to be
thronged with a countless population ; he
referred to the necessity of persons ou aud
near tho line taking equal shares of the
slock required ; argued that now is the
propitious tido which, '-taken at its flood,
