Esq., aged fi" years one of the most respect
ed citizens of Union county, formerly her Rep
resentative in Ihe Legislaturend Post Master
at the lime of his death. A Surveyor, one of
his last acts vras as the leading Commissioner
to run the Division Hue between Union and
Snyder counties.

Twenty-fire yean ago, Iowa was wil
derness tenanted only by the savage. Now
she has a civilised population estimated at
about six hundred thousand, and constant
ly increasing. The emigration to the
state this year has been very heavy.
Indiana papers state that the reeont
frosts have had the effect to cause a great
abatement in the "chill and fever" epido
mie, which has been prevailing in that re
gion during the prescut fall.
