Messrs. Editors : While reading
the last number of your interesting paper,
my attention was arrested by a very learn
ed aud able communication from our cit
izens "Man v." in retard to tho health of
our people generally, and especially those
living along "Cherry Alley." Tho facts
therein set forth are of a startling charac
ter, aud show plainly, that our Town
Couueil have been guilty of a great wrong,
aud ought to be arraignod before tho pub
lie, and made to show cause why the sen
tence of political death should not be
forthwith pronounced upon them ; for
what right havo they to devote their time
and attention maiuly to the fixing of one
or two streets each year ? 'Why not fix
all tho streets and alleys t ouee, iu a
single year 1 What if it did cost fifteen
or tweufy thousaud dollars to do it ? Who
cares fr expense, when health is at jeo
pardy ? Rut no, this would not answer
their purpose, for they know very well,
that if they were to pun-ue that course,
that the work would soon all be done and
thut the people would find they had no
further use for them, and then their .it
ftfarics would be stopped, aud they would
not sit at their case, aud Miioko their

sides the people living iu the vicinity of
each are willing and anxious to have it
done ; not ouly go, but I have no doubt
they would be willing to affiun that their

Sineo writing the above, I have

that the whole difficulty has arisen from

it is a well known fact, to "many" citizens
from other parts of tho town, who have

with o the inclosnrcs of sundry persons in
the vicinity, smell quite as bad, if not
