Dial CuaoNicLi If yon bare any trouble in deciphering my MS. this time, you mast place it to the credit of your correspondent, "Anglo-American," whose very pious wishes in my behalf, added to the flagellation be has administered as a kind of foretaste, bas left my poor nerves in anything but a quiescent state, He reminds one very much of the trav eler who slept at Stony-Middleton, and who remarked to bis landlord in the morn ing, "You may well call this Stony-Mid-dleton." "Why 1" aked Boniface. "Be cause," said he, "I never was so bitten with fleas in all my life." "Anglo-American" reads "with attention" a tingle letter of mioe, selects from that a siugle pan graph, and comes to the conclusion that I have a "de-op sympathy with Uussiau des jnotutn," aud that I am a "narrow-minded, spiteful, ignoraut snob !" Whew ! What an uufortunate thiug it is that I'm not 8ebast.in.il. Joe Smith used to amuse his converts with a story of his father's ram, who broke but neck butting at an old bat that be supposed eontaincd a mau's head. I trust your correspondent did not hurt him self over kU "mares nest J" After establishing, to his owu satisfac tion, my "disgraceful" sympathy with Russia, he gives us three reasous as tho only ones he "cau imagine" why any one "should wish to see EuglanJ crushed," tic. These three, cither for brevity's sake or in accordance with a . rale extensively nscd in Ireland, and classically named "Taurus," he has reduced to two, viz : ' I'll it. A n.sn may be a I'apist and cherish a jd'hm r-pite against I'nglaud, be cause she has thrum off her allegianco to the "scarlet woman.'- "Sxowi. lie may be a Southern sla very Propagandist Filibuster ; and he may therefore hate England simply be cause he fears that the naval power of JCuglan.l may prevcut mm and bis amiable piratical associates from stealing Cuba, in order to perpetuate slavery in that tropi cal Eden for ever and for ever." What a pity "A. A'a" imagination gavo out at that point ; another guess and be would have hit it. With respect to the first, I presume there arc few Papists who date their spite against England so far back as the Re formation ; they only hate ber as they would any other Protestant country ; and in the present war I do not know that the Catholic world is at all opposed to England ; indeed, it would not bo sur prising if the balance of sympathy was with her, seeing she is the faithful ally of France, "the oldest daughter of the Church;'' and wbo doubts that "Pio Nono" bad much rather wear bis crown at the bands of France and England.than sea them defeated, and ba placed at the mercy of the head of the Greek Church, area without Constitutional liberty ! In that ease, our friend's "reason" is bat a lame one, and aa far as it concerns myself, I have only to say, that as my ancestors were among the defenders of the "Maiden City" when English liberty was driven to that stronghold, the defence of which had probably as much share in securing that Messing to our race, as any other single vent among the many straggles of the period ; I am not a very likely individual to have much sympathy foi the old lady in scarlet In regard to the second the "South-cn-slavery-propagandist-Fillibuster" rea son, I conclude that oar friend is not a believer in "mauifest destiny." Perhaps be has beard of an individual making some noise in the world just now, com monly called "Sam." "Sam," it strikes as, is of opinion that Cuba is his by right, or "had ought to be" and is just hanging there "rip. TrY anfl rotlw. A9Tba New Berlincrs have found one friend. Some chap in Lawrenco county way over the mountain ia the back end of the State says in his Journal, speak ing of the Division Tote: 'Dy this decUion the farmers, the bone and sinew of the cotfnty, are completely diddled, abd will in the eud bava to foot the bill for the erection of publio build ings in both counties." That man lies equal to any of the New Berlin tribeshould not wonder if he was brought up there. syThc Sulinsgrovo Dcmnkrat argncs that the Division diction can tKt be con tested, inasmuch as "uo person was voted for." We understand, however, that steps have been taken by sonio of the New Derliuers fur a trial, although the more judicious of them deem it a useless effort. Whether they will persevere in provoking further odium, remaius to be seen. S-ntder .CouNir Middleburg and Frceburg have takcu the start of is'elins grove and got their S 10,000 Bonds nearly or quite filled. (We like U see these si'tis of enterprise in our up-creck neigh bors, but after all, it often proves that "tbe first shall bo last.") JtaTTlie attempts of the Filibusters to get up a piratical descent upon Cuba, by provokiug troubles, and then magnifying them, are as great as ever. The Washington urrived this evening via Southampton, with Liverpool dates to the 28th ult. The advices from tho Vienna Confer ence state that although thg Cr.-t and sec ond points had been settled, the discus sions upon tbe important ili.-J. point were not progressing satiafactorilj, and tho re sult could not bo conjecture i. The lis umntliuc of Scbastopol was not pressed bv tbe Allies, but their other requirements were highly ottensivo to Kussia. Several important engagements had tak en place before Sebastopol, one being a grand assault by the Russians upon tbe Allied lines, which was repulsed with con siderable loss to tbe Russians. The French Zouaves made a gallant as sault upon the rear Russian redoubts, but were repulsed. On the other hand, the position occupied by tho Russian Sharp shooters, was assaulted by the Frcnoh daring a night sortie, and driven back. The Russians also made a sortie at the same time, to sustain the party attacked, bat were repulsed. At Eupatoria the Turkish cavalry were repulsed, during a sortie against the Rus sians. The development obtained by tbe Roe back Committee, in relation to tho suffer ings of the British troops in the Crimea, are of the most apalling character. Haliiax, April 13. Tbe steamship America arrived last night. Affairs in the Crimea present no change. The publio attention is concentrated upon the Vienna Conference. There is represented to be a great difficulty in re lation to the third point, although the de mands of the Allies havo been much mo dified. The Russian Plenipotentiary has referred the matter to St. Petersburg, and nothing further could be done until a ro. ply was received. The French Minister for Foreign Affairs has been to London to confer with the Kuglish Cabinet upon tbe momentous question. Union County May Court. Issue List, May T. 1855.
