Catholic Toleration. The N. Y.
Times mentions a singular coincidence.
When the Madiai were imprisioned in
Florence, Italy, for reading the liiblo in
their own House, Arclib'shop Hughes
defended the dc;potirm by drawing a dis
tinction between Liberty of Conscience
and Liberty of worship. Louis Xapoleon
adopts the same theory. When certain
protcstauts prayed him for the riijhtof the
exorcise of conscience in matters of reli
gion be replied "That he recognizes the
rights of Liberty of Conscience iu his sub
jects, but not Liberty of Worship." Thus
do the defenders of despotism go together.
Murder of Three. At a ruin fracas
in a bar-room, in Sugar Hill, Panola Co.,
Texas, some three weeks ago, two men
named Glass and Crain, were about to usel
pistols on each other; an old man named
Yeary, the only sober man except some
strangers, interfered, and was shot dead
ly Glass. Young Ycary killed Glass, and
another Glass was killed by others while
attempting to kill Yeary, who was badly
wounded.
