eminent teachers, were also here during
the whole session. Their deliberations
and diussions upon the best modes of
teaching the d ti' rent branches cf educa
tion, on school discipline, and many other
topics bearing directly upon the great
business of leaching, were truly interesting
and instructive. Mr. Waring's address on

our place, Las cot, fe red a lasting blessing,
by giving a new impetus to tbc cause
among us, which will we doubt not tell
favorably in future. The establishment
of this institute iu our county is deemed an
important era in the history of her com
mon schools, and has already accomplished
much in elevating the teachers' profession
nd bringing into ir.oro general use, the

posted announcing the occasion, and at tbc

Nino or ten skaters entered for the race,
and when the word "go" Wis givcn,started
off in good. One, a printer, was knocked
into ;n' on the first quarter ; and on tbe
second, two or three more wheeled off ;
n.ud in turning the half-mile corner, the
bcRt skater on the ice tupndel (on the
broad of bis back) and the next best rolled
over the top of him leaving but three
skaters on tbe last half mile, and one of
which soon "caved in," leaving two pretty
equally matched in fleetness. The way
they slung their "timbcra" wasn't slow !
