Baltorial Oorreipond.nce of Lcwisbarg Chronicle. Ntw Berlin, IVc 7, 1854. At court again, lifter a pleasant jaunt lo Jlirrifbarg, Carlisle Ac, and back home Tta Millcrstown. The throng of travelers at Tamaqua from all points of the compass, lft ni only tbe soft side of tlie parlor floor ' for ft couch, aDd buffalo robes and overcoats for t steltcr. Left at 3 o'clock A. M. in sleigh for Pottsvi!!?, with a wide awake "Contincntaler" for a driver, and fieling greatly indebted to Mr. Frank WemT for bis extra and unwearied pains to make as comfortable and expedite our journey. Reached Pottsville just in time for tbe eirs to Auburn and thence to Ilarrisburg, but sadly pinched by tbo intense, pier:ing cold. This route, it will be seen, is at present broken and inconvenient, but I was informed by authority at Ilarrisburg that soon after the lit of January coming, connection will Ic made between the CatUtt icsa, and Dan pi in and Sosqttehnnna lailroads, via AuLarn and Port Clinton, by which passengers can leave Ilarrisburg in the f 'rcno.m and reach Milton, Wil Iwnisport, kt; in the evening ; and West Branch travelers can leave home in the morning and reach Ilarrisburg tho same day an arrangement that will monopolize the northern and southern travel, and add immensely to the convenience and comfort of the citizens of northern Pennsylvania. While doing business at various points from Ilarri.'-biirg by railroad in a few hours, I conl J not help but think how pleasant it woo'd be to be able to step into the cars at any point in Buffuloc Valley, an 1 in two or three hours be at Miilheim, spring Mil's, Old Fort, Boalsburg, Tyrone, ic, or through Rebcrsburg and Brush Valley, and after despatching business,or speuding a few hours with friends, to be back in time for tea! The idea is so very agree able in prospect, and practicable, that it can not but be realized in a few years at firtherc'it. There is not much news at Court. I called at the Jail to-diy to see the three young prisoners from our town. They are of course very comfortable under Sheriff Kcssler's care, yet seemed a little home sick, and heartily tired of their involuntary quarters. They will return home next Widnesday, satisfied with the operation of their first collision with tbe stern laws of the land, and disposed I think to be more cautious and well behaved in f"' tanee take warning from their example. The Common Pleas business is steadily progressing an important life-insurance ease being cow on trial. H. f&f-Last week, at tho Union County Court, Patrick Kascy was convicted of an assault and batfry (but not with intent to- kill) on' Johnson, dee'd. Kascy 's wife was found guilty of stealing money, and Patrick as an accessary. Sentences deferred until this week. The othei Cemmonwcalth business we learn was settled without coming to trial. The Philadelphia Dignities. Oodey's Lady's Book, for January, commences the &Oih volume of that iuter--rting periodical. Godey has been one of the most successful as well as tho most enterprising of publisher, and the skill and artistic taste which he has exhibited iu the coarse of his long career, eutitle him to the listing gratitude of the fair sex. A series of Illustrated articles, explaining the mode of constructing different house hold and domestic manufactures, have re cently appeared in Godey, adapting it to the taste of Gentlemen as well as Ladies. We will sond GorEY and the Chronicle one year to any person who will pay us S3.5U in advance. (Single copies of Godey, 3.00.) Graham's American Maoaztse, for January, is also upon our table. The high Ti-putjttinn of this periodical is admirably sustained in this number. The aim of the publisher has been to give thj Magizinc a National character, and with this view he has introduced a series of interesting sketches of Revolutionary and other early history, which renders its pages pleasing and instructive, ilcadley's Life of Wash ington is continued in ihi So. The propriety of ibe United States offiier, in issuing the writ of haheaM corpus, seems questionable at least : and at aoy rate tbe conduct of the British offi.'er was very natural, and pre cisely what a high-spirited American would have pursued had he been placed in pre cisely similar circumstances.
