California Election.
The election on the 6th Sept. resulted
in the choice of Messrs. Deurer and Her
bert, Anti-Broderick Democrats, for Con-
. gress. The Legislature has a majority of
j t'J( two factions of the Democracy, but it
is doubtful w hether they can unite upon a
j '. S. Senator. In Pan Francisco, the
( Know Nothings carried everything before
j I hem, 0 candidates being Whig and Anti-
Hrodi rick, aud 7 K. N.s only. Every n.an
was elected, some having 4,000 majority.
The new Common Council is composed of
12 Whigs and 4 Democrats.
Trofessnr M.re is said to have discov
ered the skeleton of a mastodon near
Toughkccpsie, and is now at work excavat
ing it. It is spoken of as the most perfect
specimen ever yet found. The bones arc
partially pniGed.
The Madison (Indiana) Banner siys
.Martin Roberts, who resides on the river
sonic six miles below Madison, in Ken
tucky, informs ns that he has a hog that
weighs upwards of nineteen hundred
