A correponlont of the Raton Uirall
gives many revelations of the mysterious
opli-r ntyleil Know Xothinz by thn cnin-
firmed. The followinir is the narrative of
Lis initiation. He was on the Common :
At 9 o'clock precisely, I stood beneath
the big c':n. Ere tbe sound of the ninth
stroke had fairly died away, I was seized
by four stalwart men, and, in less than a
moment, my eyes were closely bandaged,
and a sticking plaster clapped on my
mouth.
One of the party then seized mc by the
coat t ail, and twirled me round like a top
for sime minutes, so that when we started
to leave the Common, I could not tell for
my life, in what direction we were going
Leaving the Common, I was hurried
along at a rapid pace, through street after
street till at last a halt was made, and a
consultation was held between my conduc
tors. At its conclusion they each said to
the other "I ihm'l know."
I was then suddenly lifted off my feet,
and hurried into a building, and up seven
flight of s'airs, and at so rapid a pace that
I could hardly catch breath through my
nostrils.
Again my conductors paused, and I was
placed agiin on my feet. I'resen;ly,thrre
was a knock on a tor. . I5y the flashing
light that burst thro' the I and :ge over my
eyes, I knew as we entered the room, that
we were in a brilliantly lighted hall of
some kind, and, I judged from the atmos
phere, that it was densely crowded.
I was led some distance into the ball,
when somebody, in a loud and command
ing voice, exclaimed, "halt!"
We stood still a momcut or two, when
in a tcnihle tone, the words w rc uttcrc',
' llo prepared ! The hour lias arrived!"
Whereupon I was quickly thrown over,
and lashed upon a sort of settee.
"Ow!" cried the voice, aud I received
a tremendous whack on the b ick. Two?'
and a second came. " T'irrr!" and I
got a blow, the mark of which I shall car
ry to my grave.
"Prepare for immersion!

I should have frozen to death on the spot,
