Died. At his residence near Middle
burg, t'nion ennnty, u Sunday the 10th
inst., Hon. GKORGK KKE.MKIJ, in the
79th year of his age.
Mr. K. was Lorn in Lancaster county,
23d November, 177 -I, and came to Lewis
burg about 10"), whero ha resided till
1S25 or 6, when he moved to the farm
00 which ho died. Ua was a nephew of
Kx-Gov. Simon Snyder, in whose family
he was brought up.
He was a nu inl i r of the State Legis
lature; and represented the old Northum
berland district composed of the counties
of I nion. Northumberland. Columbia and !
Lycoming for two successive terms in
Congress, including that of 1V25, which
elected John Quiucy Adams to the l'rcsi
deuey. His last public apiearaticc was in
July, 1847, wheu ho presided over a
couuty meeting held at New Itcrlin, to
advocate the elevation of Gen. Taylor to
the White House.
He was independent and uncompromis
ing ia b:s opiuions, and the hading trait
of his character was inflexible honesty of
purpose. As a friend he was warm-heart
ed, anil yielded the lunst entire ami unic-t-crved
confidence ; but if once imposed
upon or betrayed, he withdrew all confi
dence, and would have nothing to do, in
any way, with the off. tiding party. In
hie domestic relation he was happy, and
as a husband and fiMicr peculiarly k iud
and iudulgcnt. lie was married in
lSilQ, and a widow, one eon, and four
daughters survive him. Ho was not
connected with any religious denomination,
but always, when the subject was mention-
cu. ueciared bis implicit laitli in Uod, and i
Jesus Christ his Son. This he re-aiHrmed j
in his last illness, and expressed himself
resigned tu his fate and submissive to the will
of his Maker. He felt satisfied with his course ,
through life, and said that if lie had ma.leniis
