tbit Union connty two years ago pledged
itself not only not to ask f r the re-nmi
cation of Mr. Middleswarth, but also that
the County should not claim the Office at
present for more thau that Term ; and the
two counties had agreed upon Jon.v C.
Kl'NKLK, thus ensuring him a majority.
"Upon this frank representation of the state
of the case, Mr. Casey promptly waived a
contest, and Mr. Knnklc received the
vnanimout nomination. The Conference
did not n ndertako to decide between the
rival claimant from Union, all of whom
recorded their votes for Mr. Knnklc.
This connty was naturally desirous of
Laving the Representative in Congress ;
but no one without her borders could be
more acceptable (party politics aside) than
John C. Kunkle. As a public speaker,
be bad not a superior during his five years'
services in the Legislature ; and his love
of human rights, and fearlessness of power,
render him peculiarly fitted, in this event
ful era, for a representative of the land of
Pcnn, of Franklin, and of the Concrcss
of '78.

MFTbe Whig Senatorial Conference of
this district met at Beavertown on Satur
day last, and unanimously concurred in
the nomination of Mr. Sellers of Junia
ta. The Representative Conferees met at
the same timc.and made no nomination.
Neither Conference attempted to decide
between the rival claimants from Uuion.
The Democratic Senatorial Conference
met at Mifflintown on Tuesday. A rumor
states that Mr. Doty of Juniata received
the nomination for Senate, and that no
nomination was made for Representative.
Should no democratic candidate for
Assembly be brought forward, the contest
would lie between Messrs. SrtcK and Fi
montox, and afford a tolerably fair test
on the Division question.
S9"The Star supported Mnj. Simonton,
"subject to the decision of the Whig Con
ferees." The Conferees have drcithd not
to nominate Simonton. Considering that
last year 'both Union and Juniata agreed !
support bim, their present refusal to j
nominate tim is equivalent to a rejection. I
All the efforts of tho New Berlin cli.,ue
to bully aud entrap the Juniata people J
anil Conferees, proved failures.
