    Boms Value of the Press.
The esjitor of a village paper out Trpt,
STBICK for Lis dues once oti a time, and
topped Lis paper. His subscribers were
tnos'ljr in arrears, and he resolved, in I lie
most positive manner, that he would give
the people no wore of tLc product ol hi
Land?, pocket, and brain, until he slioull
receive some of the product of their farms,
or, if that was not convenient, the cash
instead. lie happened to own a patch of
ground, and he very quietly took up the
shovel and the hoc, and with his devil went :
to work raising Lis pruh, while waiting the '
decision of the town's people.
Great was the excitemcut in the village
when the paper was btopjK-d. The maid '
and raatrr.ua. didn't know who was married '
and who died in the neighboring towns ;
the farmer got no news respecting the
crops in other sections of the country and
sold off their produce at much lower prices
than they might have commanded; the1
manners and niorals'of the people deterio
rated ; the children grow up iutich less in
telligent than formerly; and the people got '
completely in the fog on all the promiucut !
question of the day. I
