privileges of thc Northumberland or Pan-
ville banks, except that it can iiot issue i,s ,

tain periods of time which is not the
caae with those Banks. Persons who wish .
to borrow money can obtain discounts here j
in the same way and to as good purpose as I
if they had applied in persou to the llar
risburg, York, Chambersburg, Pittsburg,
or other similar banks of issue, and cau
pay their notes in the same kind of money
which they received. Persons of small
tneans can here deposite from time to time
euch portions of thcir earnings as they
may be able to lay by, and receive a speci
fied rate of interest thereon, until they
Lave accumulated a sum sufficient for the
purchase of property, or investment iu
bind and mortgages. As the Act of
1848 gives married women the exclusive
control of their own means, the wives of
intemperate or thriftless husbands can here
accumulate and increase the fruits of their
toil in a place of perfect security, aud save, i
spend or invest it for themselves,
may ace proper. The advantages of this
branch of the Institution s operations arc :
