This was spoken with a spice of vexation
and disappointment at the stranger's want

Our friend then began to feel that he
had done injustice to the unimaginative
jrentleman, and turned eagerly towards

At the Second Centennial Celebration of
the settlement of the town of Glastonbury, I
Conn., which took place on the 18th inst., j
there appeared in the procession an old I
lady and gentleman on horebaik, dressed
in the style of the 17th century, the old
three-cornered hat, powdered wig, scarlet
coat, buff breeches, &c., on the gentleman,
and the antiquated female dress of 100
on the lady, who rode behind, seated on a
pillion, holding on to the coat of her
companion.
The ladies of Glastonbury, have also
made a formal presentation of a loaf of
rake to the Legislature of their State.
The cake was presented on behalf of the
l idies by the Hon. J. C. Smith, a lineal
descendant of the first minister of tilaston
bury, who accompanied it with a brief
upecch, to which a member from New
Jlaven responded. Whcu the discussion
had closed, the cake was cut up by tire
Speaker, and put upon its final passage
without reference to a committee. It was
the first internal improvement measure
passed this session. N. Y. Evening I'ost.
