idea that in the present case, a division
will bring double expense and heavier tax
ation. The opposite is much nearer the
truth. In the first place a division would
avoid the otherwise inevitable tax to re- j
build at New Berlin. In tha next place 1
the Prothonotary, Sheriff, and Register , daughter of the late John Uowes, all of Lewis-

of the divison of the county, but it was
tvpprctsed in the published proceedings.
This circumstance strikingly illustrates the
policy of some leading opponents of the di
visicn,and the strength of public opinion in
favor of that measure.

Directors of the Susquehanna Railroad
t ikes place to-day, in Ilarrisburg. As the
principal business before them will be the
construction, or virtual abandonment, of
the road above Sunbnry, the people of this
vicinity await the result of their delibera
tions with much anxiety.
