fond of agricultural improvements, Las
been trying his hand at raising sugar beets,
on a small scJc, during the hist summer.
After manuring aud preparing about ouc
cigLth ef au acre of grouud he sowed it
about the latter eud of May, aud after
giving the crop the necessary attention, he
took np the beets about a week ago, and
the weight of the crap was 3130, measur
ing about 55 bushels, which would be at
the rate of 440 bushels per acre. The
gentleman is well pleaswd with the result
of his experiment, and will try it again
next year. We would like to have a com
munication from him on the subject for
our agricultural columns, giving the treat
ment aud other particulars of the crop.
The culture of the sugar beet, we thiuk,
ought to receive the attention of every
farmer. In consequence of the great
amount of saccharine matter they contaia,
they are better suited for the feeding of
cattle than any other root crops, and that
they yield well, we have the evidence be-
